I am wondering if the Rockets can keep Shandon Anderson and Mo Taylor AND go for a real star like "I tell people what they want to hear"-Webber next year (the only other interesting FA I see would be Mutombo). Would Shandon Anderson be satisfied with something like 5 million a year? That would be his current contract plus what Bullard gets per year, if NBAtalk's salary information is correct for once. Something like a 6-year, 5 million per-year contract for Shandon Anderson if he plays well this year?

I think we would need all of the money Hakeem gets now for Webber if he was to come here. That would make it difficult to have enough money to resign Taylor, even if he played well enough to give him a big contract, unless we moved Cato and/or(?) Walt.

I also see a problem trying to get Webber if we resign Taylor. Webber would have to be willing to play center, but that is not really his position. It might make more sense to go after Mutombo if Taylor does well and is actually resigned.

    What do you think?

Our cap space would be gone resigning Anderson and Taylor. It may even be a challenge resigning both, much less both AND Webber. You might can convince Anderson to play for cheap one more year until you have his full bird rights, as next summer we'll have to go all out trying to resign Taylor with our cap room. The ONLY way Webber is at all realistic is if you convince Shandon to play one more year for cheap, don't resign Mo, and figure out a way to dump Walt's salary. That's the only way it can be done.

If we really want to go after Webber, then Taylor is just a one year deal. Webber isn't gonna play center and there's not enough PF time for them both.

In the meantime, we need to find a way to rid ourselves of both Walt's and Cato's contracts. I guess the only way is to trade them for players with only one year left on their contracts. This wouldn't make next season all that exciting, but it would give up more options at the end of next year.

I wonder if we made those types of deals mid-way through the season... would that be a good idea?

I say we trade Walt for another SF with one year left on his contract, if we trade him AT ALL........Cato stays, unless we're somehow sure we'll get Eddie Curry or Loren Woods.......

I just posted on another thread the exact same concern. You guys aren't being very reassuring here.

This is certainly premature, since we haven't seen Mo play in the pinstripes yet, but I'd just as soon target Taylor and Anderson for resigning at the cost of FA hunting. We'll still have the draft.

I just know I'm going to have nightmares about Shandon resigning with the Jazz - I know, it's virtually impossible in real life, but the subconscious is expert at finding ways to torture you while you sleep...

If we make a priority of signing Anderson and Taylor to mid-long term contracts (ie 4-5 years) then we'll have a fairly solid nucleus to build around! I don't think we'll need to take a shot at a "prime time" FA next year - I guess that's because there aren't many available - but IF Mo displays a desire to play good ball and IF Cato is halfway decent defensively and learns to catch the ball then I think we'll be looking to pad the roster out with solid role-players.

If Taylor has an awesome year, I say we just sign Taylor and not concentrate on Webber. The player we would then need is Finley. A lineup of
    Cato
    Taylor
    Finley
    Shandon
    Francis
    is pretty bad ass!
    Not to mention Mobes!
