Depth, they've been looking for a 4th option big who can D up for a while now.

This could mean the rights to Joel Freeland is available. RGV coach is also Freeland's coach when he plays for Great Britain. Freeland turned down a contract offer from the Blazers this season.

    Blazer's guaranteed contracts for 2010-11:

    Miller, Bayless
    Roy, Fernandez
    Batum, Webster, Cunningham
    Aldridge, Przybilla, Pendergraph
    Camby, Oden

so the blazers offically gave up on oden.

doesnt make sense to pay a center that much money and only have him back up oden.

Oden at best will be a backup for the next 2 years. I don't know what will happen with Pryzbilla either, his injury is not an easy one to recover from either.

Yea that was my first thought. You cant commit that much money to three different centers.

That's a really ridiculous amount for this guy. It's more than David Lee, a much better player, is getting

Exactly. Honestly if you got that much money to throw around why not get Lee? Unlike Camby Lee can also play the pf spot, and although he's not a defensive center, the Blazers already have 2 guys who are already defensive minded guys (Oden, Pryz). Camby's not a bad player, but there's also a reason why his market value amounted to a 2nd round pick

I understand why Portland would overpay Camby -- Camby is actually a very good fit on the Blazers. They have enough players who can score, but they lack a defensive presense in the middle with Oden and Przebilla being too fragile.

I'm not reading the article, I call BS.

Portland is just trying to scare away offers in hopes of signing him for less than 7 mill per.

This is the same Portland management that balked at giving max dollars to Aldridge and they open the vault for an often injured old timer like Camby? Wow! I'll believe when I see it!

The deal also has incentives for 4M for a total package of 25M. He's the best center on that team and for 25M I expect him to start. The site is blocked but here's the blog.

    http://*******************/articles/381232-marcus-camby-and-blazers-close-to-contract-extension

Finally some good news from our favorite team.

As first reported on 95.5 The Game, center Marcus Camby is close to signing an extension with the Portland Trail Blazers. Camby's agent Rick Kaplan told Jason Quick:

"Since the day Marcus was traded, the Blazers and Marcus made it clear it was not for an interim engagement. It has been our goal to get something done, and hopefully he will stay in Portland long term.''

The total deal, which is reportedly awaiting league approval, is said to be worth $21 million for two years. Camby will also be eligible for roughly $4 Million in incentives.

Some sources report that a deal is close to being made in principle, whereas other sources report the Trail Blazers and Camby will announce the extension today. For rolling updates and some great analysis, check out Ben Golliver's post over at Blazersedge.com.

For salary cap implications, go here. In my opinion, this signing if it indeed occurs, is a win-win-win for all parties involved.

First, the Blazers get a big man, someone who has (crossed fingers) not blown out their kneecap in 1/3 of a season with the team. Camby has proven valuable both on the court and off so there is no need to worry that the team just signed some low character, misfit.

Second, Marcus Camby gets paid. For his age and projected minutes behind/alongside Oden next season, this deal is great for him.

Finally, if Camby somehow becomes unable to play or produce the way he has this season and post season, his contract is of favorable length and would in theory turn into an expiring contract, one that can be used on the open market as part of a larger trade (think Raef Lafrenz's expiring contract).

Camby has played tremendously for the Blazers during his short time with the team. His individual defense and leadership abilities are his most valuable contributions to the team. Just thinking of Camby and Oden has me salivating. Okay, that was creepy. I'll stop now.

They're now saying Przybilla's career might be over.

If Marcus Camby is indeed off the free-agent market, the center-less Knicks may be desperate enough to investigate Bulls 7-foot backup center Brad Miller come July, according to a league source
