I hated the Rockets. Was a big Suns fan during the Barkley years. The Rockets broke my heart with those dramatic playoff wins against my Suns.

Then Barkley joined Houston and I was intrigued. I started rooting for the team but only cuz of Charles. Not yet a diehard Rockets fan.

Yao and Tmac was when I truly lived and died with the Rockets. The playoff losses (to Dallas, then Utah, then the Lakers) and of course the injuries were tough to bear. No one I knew rooted for the Rockets amongst my friends here in the Philippines. Everyone cheered for the contenders.

And then their era was over. So sudden. But I stayed a Rocket fan. Loved every player -- from our first to our fifth point guard and our myriad of power forwards. But was also a fan of the approach. We weren't going to bottom out. We weren't going to tank. We were just going to be smarter in the way we assessed players. It's been fascinating to watch how Morey put it all together over the last couple of seasons.

Now it's paid off. We aren't going to be the ninth seed this season. We're going for it!

Ive been a fan since the championship run. I was too young to understand the game back then but i knew who hakeem was because my brother has a **** ton of hakeem cards.

I was super ecstatic when i heard the rockets were coming to the philippines but was disappointed that on the week they were to play, i'd be busy for my finals. UGH

Wow, I'm not Filipino, but I was in Boracay during the same time last year. Had to wake up at 9am to watch those games.

It's the same with any overseas market. One year they are Lakers fans, then Heat fans, then Rockets fans.

People without any local interest in a team, will root for whoever is winning games. Good basketball is universally liked.

As long as LBJ or Kome's around i sincerely doubt that, (DH12 isn't as popular here as those two)

We havent had to bring this up in a while, but I notice a few new members in this thread posting in their native tongues...while the mods have nothing against other cultures, we do ask that you post only in English.

We need to be able to tell if someone is posting something we dont allow, and we cant do that if it isnt in English.

oh, and you guys shouldnt be surprised that we have fans here from all over the world, when I hosted Rockets torrents back in the day I used to see peers from alot of different countries.

Glad to know there are Pinoy Rockets fans, though I'm sure there are more now just because of the current line-up, that's cool, but I hope you're not just here for the (coming) good times. Sadly, it's been my experience that some pinoys just like to get into what's popular or "uso" or are more of a player-fan rather than a team-fan.

It's also awesome to know that there are fans who also grew into Rocket fandom via the Back-to-Backs and have stuck with them since.

Growing up in a pinoy school abroad, I had to defend those 'ships against the "Jordan was on vacay" argument and picked fights whenever some gago said Shaq was better than Hakeem (Dream is the best center of the modern era!)

Anyways, it's a good sign that the Rockets playing here will get more exposure to the Filipino fans, hopefully we'll pick up a new generation of pinoy rowdies, hehe.

If there are any other peeps interested in a meet-up or if you don't have tickets to the MOA game, I'd rather hangout with fellow Rockets fans and talk about anything Rockets: past, present or future.

    Mabuhay :)

Does that also apply to Filipino (any other nationality) fans who stuck with the Rockets through the years after that back to back championships?

Bandwagon fans are those who cheer on a team when they're champions/ winning, so how does that make any person regardless of nationality a bandwagon fan? Not trying to start an argument, just asking, peace bro

wow what an ass, been following the team since the 90s, and I'm in the Philippines, (the ultimate definition of bandwagon, from Lakerland to Heatdom), so does that make me a bandwaggoner too?

In the internet age, it's hard to know who is a bandwagon fan. Only you really know yourself. And if you are a bandwagon fan, may your conscience burn you inside out until you discover "loyalty". That's what makes winning so sweet.
