Ok, I realize I'm playing Monday morning point guard, but a couple things from the news/post/videos really stood out and I think they should be highlighted and added to the Official Rockets Canon and Book of Fan Lore. (Sorry if this has been mentioned ad nauseam. I'm not in Houston and have not scoured the threads for redundancies.) 1.) Nuno referring to "The Mother's Day Massacre": Not sure if he coined it, but I make a motion that this game should be referred to as such henceforward. B.) Hayes' reference to "play by committee" : I also forward the motion that when this team plays, sans Yao, Deke, McGrady (ie, from now on) that they be referred to as such. a Few years back we were enamored by the Bench Mob's wacky sideways running and hand gestures that drove JVG insane. But this team, in this time is far from a Mob. Mob's don't schedule urgent face to face meetings with Kobe (see: Artest), nor do they wear bow ties (see: Brooks.) This is clearly "The Committee." Viva la Committee! -----------
YES! "I'll never use no rubber." SNL + JT = genius. And Mother's Day massacre sounds so bad. That's like saying Christmas massacre or something. Oxymoronic!!
I called it the Mother's Day Miracle. More about what we did and less about what happened to the Lakers.
Agreed. I think of the Mother's Day Massacre as being the huge 4th quarter lead we coughed up to Phoenix in the 1994 semis to put us down 0-2. That was when the Chronicle called us Choke City, the Rockets rebounded to win 2 in Phoenix, and Clutch City was born.
I'm surprised tinman nor anybody else has pointed this out, but this was the 15th Anniversary of the Mother's Day loss to Phoenix at the Summit in 1994 - a.k.a. the "Choke City" game. Edit: Sorry I should say I think it was the anniversary of the Game 1 loss to PHoenix (also a huge Choke by the Rockets - blowing an 18 pt 3rd period lead.)
Game 1 vs PHX was on mother's day...up 18...blew it. Game 2 was the choke city game...regardless...those games sucked.
