With Lakers on the verge of acquiring Gary Payton and maybe the Mailman this put more pressure on SA to get Jason Kidd. If that happens then the Rockets fall further behind in the Western Conference and several steps back from winning a title.

Either our guys need to take it up several notches and/or Yao must have a monster season AND/OR sign/acquire a big free agent for us to get into the playoffs and compete.

We cannot afford to sit on our hands. Remember we didn't have a good draft.

    Holla Back!

I agree, Our goal should be to make the playoffs and to continue to get better. I'm hoping my second favorite team will get stacked enough to beat the fakers and Pyaton and Karla will have to realize it is their fate not to get a ring. so I'm rooting for SA to get Kidd and a hopeful healthy Mourning and I hope the Rockets make the playoffs. I don't think we have the talent or experience to beat the 2 stacked teams in the west. But we are called clutch city for a reason. There is always hope or why even play. Peace and God Bless

SA and LA were both already way out of reach anyway.

Regardless, the Rockets were not going to be better than the Lakers and Spurs. They'll have a hard time making the 6-7th seed. There are plenty of good teams in the west. The Mavs, Kings, TWolves are going to be better than us. The Suns, as much as I hate to say it, may be on even level. Portland, depending on what they do, is pretty good. All we overtook is the Jazz.

Remember although JVG has seen a selection of last seasons tapes, its not like seeing the Games live and being aware of the teams glaring problems day in and day out. CD and Les should be more aggressive at this time and not be so conservative. If ever there should be a time for Les to spurge its now, with the team going into a NEW ARENA .He has to vie with two other NEW STADIUMS for the Dollars! I still have a little hope that they will surprise, I am not expecting anything but I think we might make the playoffs.

Its because we give BIG MONEY contracts to scrubs.

Im starting to think the Rockets Organization is just a bunch of "Yes Men" that throw money at any problem to fix it.

Honestly we could dump Mo and Eddie because Im sure the WEED troubles violate their contract.

    Voila,
    necesarry cap space!!!

Uh..Hello? We've been waiting. The Spurs minus Rose and Willis are close to the same age average as the Rockets and already have two titles (one with an * by it).

Why wait any longer? It is freakin' basketball. The ball goes in the hole.

TWolves were widely considered to be on its way downhill, and with KG on the team they don't have much money to spend either. However, look at what they have achieved during the offseason! Funny Rox was the center of all attention, but we couldn't attract any major players. It has to be the management, the attitude.

Also, I didn't expect Lakers to achieve much during the offseason, but look at what they have done! Don't take away credit from their effort. With Shaq over the peak and Kobe's possible leave next year, they made the effort and convinced gloove and mailman to go there. That is a miracle they made. I want to see our management at that level! CD is too laid back!

I say 3 years because Yao will be in his prime. Once he scores 20 plus a game the team will go somewhere. They could take the 5 or 6th seed this year but the development of Yao is the X Factor

The ONLY and I mean only reason the Laks are getting Payton and possibly Malone is b/c theyre coming of a championship run. The Laks brass isn't being more creative or spending more money than the Rox they just have something only 3 other teams in the league have...A real cahnce to win the NBA title NEXT YEAR. Remeber when he got Charles and then got Scottie to come here. Why? Because we had a good chance to make to the finals. When Yao hits his prime and Steve gets a little more under control, we'll be able to get aging superstars to come play here.

As it's been mentioned before, the Rockets might not make a move, but they just could be working on something for July 16 or after, when the signing period begins. I don't think CD, Les and JVG will stand pat, especially not with a new arena opening.

This has no bearing on the Rockets as they were not expected to overcome these teams. How can the Rockets fall further back of teams already in front of them and who are expected to remain in front of them no matter what get better.

It's possible that Shaq, Payton, and Karla will be wheezing or broken down by next playoffs. It's possible that Kobe will be serving time. Who knows what'll happen?

    1. Lakers
    2. Kings
    3. Spurs
    4. Wolves
    5. Dallas

    6. Portland
    7. Houston
    8. Phoenix

The first 5 teams are pretty much guaranteed the top 5 spots if healthy.

Again, all teams healthy, I see the Jazz droppng out b/c of no Stockton/Malone, and 6-8 up for grabs position-wise b/w these 3 teams.

Seattle sucks & the Warriors get worse with Arena leaving.

Not so fast. Much depends on this offseason. If Malone signs elsewhere, coupled with Stockton's retirement, Utah has about 20 mil of cap space. That can land them Arenas or Miller, plus another franchise level player (if one can be had.) Utah's probably out of it for this year, but by no means are they fodder. I hate them, but they're well coached, and with Kirilinko, Harpring plus Arenas or Miller, they can beat teams. If they somehow landed olowokandi, Brand, or Brad Miller, I'd not rule them out for the final playoff spot. No chance of actually doing anything in the playoffs, but a chance of getting the final spot.

    My guess would be

    1. Lakers
    2. Spurs
    3. Dallas (they get Mourning)
    4. Kings
    5. Wolves
    6. Portland
    7. Phoenix
    8. Rox

Lakers did a great sales job, they pulled off something nobody expected and created an all-star lineup. Rox is too laid back now. This is THE year to acquire quality FAs and they are on fire sale! Once the salary cap is raised next year or so, you will have to pay double to acquirers guys on the level this year. But I bet NBA players will press really hard to raise the salary cap, especially so many great players have to settle for MLE or even less this year.
