They almost certainly will decline it and then renegotiate. No surprise at all.

I wonder if they have something worked out or if they are still negotiating.

Once the KD deal was done, this is a no-brainer. FVV is not getting a penny over the non-taxpayer MLE ($15mil) on the open market and the Rockets already overpaid him for two years. As long as the Rockets give him a few mil over the MLE, it would easily be his best spot for the offseason. The Rockets also need room under the luxury tax/first apron to use their MLE to pay someone like Ty Jerome. And picking up the option would destroy any chance of that.

Now it becomes - how much is FVV worth? He will not have a large market outside of Houston.

I mean, he probably couldn't get 10m a year anywhere else.

I would certainly take the "over" on whether or not FVV would make over or under $10,000,000 a season on his next contract on the open market.

DD is either a sociopath and loves being grandiose on this little corner of the Internet or he suffers from dementia.

VanFleet would clearly get more than $10 million. Christ.

I don’t understand why people aren’t at least kind of open to the concept that he could play better next year. Factually he is a player that has won a championship.

if we want to contend over the next three years, keeping him is probably a good idea

My guess has always been he'll return on a 2+1, team option.

    3 years , $90m
    TO on year 3
    32, 30, 28

    my gues

obvi I would prefer something like 3 years, $75m - $84m with TOs on year 2 and year 3
That would make Fred’s new contract an attractive trade chip
