A moment to soak in the moment : A moment to answer all the Rocket-haters: : A moment for the Rockets and Rockets' fans: Ok! Now, we are in the position we always wanted. We are the ones making the calls. What do we do? What is the best option for the Rockets? (1) Draft Yao Ming: First, let's not fool ourselves by thinking he is the clear cut #1 pick. A shaq, a duncan , and maybe a david robinson would be considered a clear-cut #1 pick. Certain teams would rather take j. williams or a m. dunleavy over yao ming. Now, do WE take yao ming? He has as many negatives as he does positives. The good thing is that we can see him: he can shoot, he can block , he can rebound (and let's just assume he will be decent to good offensively ). ----but there are some signs that it will take some time before he can develop defensively: he has more lower body strength than upper which is a sign that he will be pushed around defensively and maybe offensively-- everything the media and interested teams have seen from him is either from the chinese league or a controlled workout . It wouldn't be fair to compare him because he hasn't played an NBA game. Plus, we still don't know if he really wants to play in houston and what are the x's and o's of the chinese gov't requirements. Simply, one thing we are sure about is that he is a risk. There a number of teams who are interested in him ( maybe even dallas). The trade possibilities are limitless so why not: 2) trade the pick for a player that will fit in with the rocks. I don't see us getting away from cato . In fact, cato will be either a starter or not a rocket at all. I really believe the rocks will stay with cato at the center positon. The position we need the most help is the sf. I heard the odom and lewis trades, but the players that we need at sf are going to be the ones that can post-up, play defense and hit the mid range. If you look at it, we seriously need interior defense help. Ofcourse, if this sf can hit some threes than he would fit in perfectly with the rocks. There are a few names mentioned in the threads , the likes of garnett or marion are a very good fit and what the rocks need. I think shareef abdur rahim would be very good for us, also. We need to add pieces that would improve us offensively and defensively, plus help us now. I would love it if we could get garnett and put him in the sf postion, but I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of problems with contract matching and the number of players (bench depleted). We need to improve not just the sf and center positions, but we need better bench help (pretty much every position except pg) With Mo-t not in shape, he might not be starting at power forward. This might prevent a kt trade unless rudy feels confident in eddie or we can trade the pick for a sf-pf type player which would be in the lines of garnett, marion , rahim. what would be a better rockets dynasty: ming, cato mo-t, eddie, kt rice, (#15), t.morris mobley,t.brown francis, moochie or if we can trade the #1 : cato, eddie,#15 mo-t,kt,eddie marion, glen rice, t.morris mobley, (a better player), t.brown francis, moochie
From the limited exposure I have seen and read about Ming, IMHO he looks soft and a few years away from being ready for the day to day grind of the NBA. I wouldnt go so far to say hes a taller Shawn Bradley although with the #1 pick I think we should go after someone who can make a contribution right away. This pick could turn the franchise around alot faster than we anticipated and I am sure the Rockets front office will explore EVERY option. I dont think its realistic to think we could get Duncan or Garnett with the swap for the #1 pick {plus players} because those 2 are the cornerstones of their franchise and they would simply have to rebuild with an unproven NBA player. With that said, I would like to trade down and get a proven player who can contribute immediatly. Not sure it`s realistic but I would love to see Lafrentz in Houston
