With all of the extra players entering the draft pushing many players down should the rockets select a high schooler if they can move up in the draft?

If the rockets can get the #6 pick from NJ that would probably mean that Sagana Diop will be there along with Battier. I think this is a no brainer and we select Diop. Never pass up on the opportunity to draft a dominate center even if he is a project.

Another reason to select Diop is because of Shaq. If the rockets ever want to make it past the lakers they are going to need a center to come close to slowing him down, and Diop at 7-0 300lbs can do that.

Battier would help us make the playoffs next year but Diop will help us make it to the championship 4 yrs from now.

I am torn on this question. First of all I want to be in the playoffs next year. That would say pick up someone who can contribute next year, like a Battier.
At the same time a future Kobe/KG would be great, obviously.
However our attendance problem needs to be addressed, which most likely can be cured with winning and making ht eplayoffs.
That is why I hope all the HS kids go early and lets some of the experienced (is an experienced 21 y/o an oxymoron) guys slide down a bit.
Good news is we have some many holes (C asuming Dream leaves, SF and maybe even a PF if we screw up and don't get C-webb and lose Mo and we could use more shooters who take advantage of the new zone-D rules which will allow outside shhoters to prosper.

If you want a 7 foot 300 pound guy, I'm sure someone like Oliver Miller is still available.

diop, based on his high school #s, is far from being dominant even on a high school level. what did he average, like, 20 & 14?

    that sux.

if you are 7 feet 300#, in HIGH SCHOOL, you should AT LEAST be at 25 & 15. and i mean bare minimum.

Kwame Brown is going to be a top five pick. I definately would like to get Brown though, he's a young Garnett.

The word on Diop is he is very raw but has amazing athletic ability. He can already play dominating defense but since he has only played basketball for two years he's still learning the offensive part of the game. Many scouts say that he has more talent than Curry and Chandler. I think at worst he probably would be a defensive stopper ala Mutombo, but it's definately a gamble though like all high schoolers are.

I would love a player like Brown but believe Rudy would be more inclined to select Shane Battier, if available, as our team needs to mature and win more games and make the playoffs.

Where's Mango to tell us this is the wrong forum?

I hope we can find a way to get Diop so Hakeem will find time to school him in low post moves. Last year I was hoping we would find a way to get Mike Miller. The regulars in this BBS repeatedly trashed him, but now, who is now Rookie of the Year? What happened to Swift, etc.?
