The Rockets only have a late second round pick this year. Are there any possible players who can contribute that late into the draft?
It sure would be nice to find someone that turns out as good as Mobley did, but the chances aren't good.
I for one would like to see them bypass "potential" and focus on a player who may only do one thing really well. i'm of the opinion that second rounders in the NBA can be more valuable now than say five years ago because of the influx of High Schoolers and foreigners into the draft pool who often times take a long time to develope. A nice four year player from a big time school who could provide rebounding at the four or a nice dead eye shooter at wither the point or small forward.
Players like Brad Miller, Ben Wallace and Marquis Daniels were not even drafted. Other players like Cat, Rashard Lewis, Nick Van Exel, Carlos Boozer and Gilbert Arenas were all 2nd round picks. The players are out there at every position we just have to find them.
Chris Duhon ... but, we'll have to trade someone a future second rounder to move up to get him higher in the 2nd round.
You can't expect to really get anything out of the 2nd round, even though there are always suprises. I wouldn't mind seeing the Rockets try to make a deal for a mid-first rounder. Picking up Ben Gordan would be sweet, a really nice backup PG that could start later on.
