The Rockets do have the 18th pick in the draft, as has been suspected... this is from Doc Rocket. Still no reason to why the Magic are forking over 18 and not 23, but the Rockets have the 18th pick I'm told. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Wow, everything's coming up Milhouse...errr...Rockets! ------------------ Watch out for gay Limbo Dancers.
Any word on whether we'd send it to Vancouver to send to Detroit to send back to us? Can you imagine the line in the draft order: 18) Houston (From New York, via Phoenix, Orlando, Houston, Vancouver, and Detroit) ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
Um, if the Rockets choose to give Vancouver a first round pick this year, why can't we send them the #22 instead of the #18? ------------------ I'd rather be MC Hammer than Nine Inch Nails
I would think that the Rockets could do some good packaging the 13th, 18th & 22nd picks to get someone worthwhile. ------------------
I'm with JuanValdez. Since we finished 13, the pick we'd have to relay according to the agreement is Top 15, right? Might Vancouver just accept the #18 pick in lieu of the Top 15 we owe, either this year or next year? Can anyone imagine whether the Griz or the Rocks might have to spice up the deal with something to do that? I wonder whether Rudy and CD would go for this actually, given their hopes for the draft. Seems like we'd need that #18 to move up. ------------------
Relativist...that's exactly what I was thinking... I would think that Vancouver might accept that pick regardless of the original stipulations of the Francis deal, since they really need a pick within the top 18 to give to Detroit. But then again they might not want to bail us out so easy if they think they have the flexibility to move up...they got an additional first rounder in the Othella trade, but it's real late...so I don't know how that will shake out. ------------------ P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.
Prempeh, does that Lakers' pick satisfy their agreement w/ Detroit? If not, I would think that Vancouver's more under the gun w/ their own unprotected pick next year more so than Houston would be next year (assuming of course that Houston drastically improves and isn't in the lottery). Now, what's more important for Van? A 13 this year and their own pick next year or their pick this year and loosing their pick next year? It seems as if the Rockets would have to make it alot more attractive to them for them to budge... is a top 5 pick worth 3 first rounders though? I guess it depends. I can't wait until 05/20 to see how the draft breaks down! ------------------ women love me, fish fear me.
Achebe, actually, I imagine Vancouver could easily move down in the lottery and, say, trade Boston its #4 pick for Boston's #10 and #11. I doubt they'd settle for the #13 while paying off their obligations. Conceivably, we could trade the #13 and #18 for the #11 (especially if it gets us out of our pick obligation) and Vancouver could still retain two picks in the lottery while fulfilling their obligation to Detroit. What do you guys think? Plausible? ------------------
Relativist, so Van would agree to accept the #18 from us as payment for the Francis trade (so they can give it to Detroit) and then, in gratitude, would trade their #11 for our #13? Possibly. The easier and utterly sensible scenario, imo, is we just give them the #18 for the Francis debt and they give it to Detroit. We keep our #13 and they keep their #4. Van would do it because the pick they have to give Detroit this year is #18 or better. Houston would do it because the pick they'll be forced to pay Van next year won't be any worse than #18. Detroit will do it because, well, they don't have a choice. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
JuanValdez, no, that's too simple to work. Everyone knows real GMs go for the most complicated scenario possible. How do you think CD will try to move down in the lottery? The #13 and #22 won't get us anything. Do you seriously think the #13 and Cato could move us a few spots? I'm sure a few teams would be willing to move up a few spots for Cato, but they'd have to have and be willing to give up the cap space. What about Kenny T and the #13? ------------------
UH OH, is that (draft-day) thunder I hear? I only have one wish, that Cato is not in TX come '01-'02. ------------------
Well NJ is scheduled to have #6 and that is the position I have heard mention of the Rockets trying to get.Maybe they would take our 3 picks and Cato for their pick and KVH... Hmm at least popspost gives me something to think about for awhile. CK
New Joysey? Now what would they have....a high paid, but Rudy type SF/PF in Van Horn, and a higher pick than us. What do they need, a legit center....Cato passes for that, right? For even more fun, they need an SG who won't miss half the season....Shandon almost never gets hurt, and they have an aging veteran, who's best suited to come off the bench...Kendall Gill, both are free agents. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
Cato can stay in Texas for all I care as long as he isn't wearing a Rockets uni next season. My Cato-patience has worn out. ------------------ Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.
Yeah, NIKE, that's how I see it. Keith Van Horn is best suited for power forward, though. If we look to New Jersey, are we aiming at their #6 pick or Van Horn? Or both? Byron Scott wants shooters and veterans. Shandon at a 1st year of 5 million and Cato at 6 million would equal Van Horn's salary. Do we keep him? Or do we send him to his native California in exchange for Webber? Should we get Kendall Gill, too? In exchange for Walt? I might consider this if Kendall didn't ask for too much. The Rox visited the idea of Kendall-for-Walt (and probably more) about a year ago but the Rox didn't pull the trigger because of uncertainty with Kendall's free agency. Do we just aim for the pick? Do we want Keith Van Horn? Will he fit well here? Or is he our bait for someone else? Oeilpere, you're such a tease, give some more! ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROXTXIA (edited April 27, 2001).]
Hmm ... a good friend/source contacted me because I wrote on the front page that the Rockets were "loving life" with the three picks. He says the three picks actually worry the Rockets and that, get this, they would rather not have the 18th pick in the draft than have it. Says it's pointless to the team unless it helps them move up in the top 10. Interesting. Says Rockets are looking to move 1 or 2 of the picks. I would think the Rockets would be happy with those picks (hell, I am), but I do know this guy knows what he's talking about. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET [This message has been edited by Clutch (edited April 27, 2001).]
