    The Way We Hear It

    Houston Rockets

    By Basketball News
    Updated Friday, June 1, 2001
Word out of Houston is that small forward Shandon Anderson decided to opt out of his contract to test the free-agent market not only because he is looking for a bigger payday, but also because he isn’t certain how much playing time he will get in the future with the Rockets. Anderson originally signed with the team for the $2.25 million exception in 1999 with the wink-wink understanding that he would be offered a lucrative contract when some salary cap room opened for the team after this season, but the team has decided to go a different direction, possibly making Anderson the odd man out. Houston is building their team around guards Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley, and insiders say the team intends to go after a swingman that can run with the duo. One possible candidate is Maryland’s Terence Morris, whose stock has fallen since enjoying a stellar freshman season with the Terrapins. The team brought Morris in for a workout Wednesday, and sources say they were impressed with his potential. We hear the Rockets are well aware that Morris’ best year at Maryland came when he was playing along side Francis, and the team hopes the two players might be able to recreate some of the past chemistry that had Morris projected as a possible lottery pick just two seasons ago.

Morris would be another nice piece to add to the puzzle for the rockets. He blocks shots, rebounds, shoots the 3 pointer and doesn't need the ball to be happy. Another Horry clone. He could go higher in this draft than most of these internet draft gurus think.

I think we should grab him at #22. I like the guy. He's great for the zone. The perfect complimentary player.

It would be great to be Mo-T-vated without being T-Mo-rous!

Terrance Morris is softer then a Shipley doughnut. Im tired of hearing this potential hogwash. Did you watch any Ncaa games this year? Maryland was on quite a few times and the times they were on Morris looked like Kelvin Cato with a case of insomnia. This guy has less energy than a domestic slug. This has nothing to do with Morris's personal life, that is untouchable, this is basketbal talk, but basketball wise, whens he's ont he court he's like a dead oak.

Same things were said about Kenny Thomas. He was a steal at 22 and Morris very well could be too.

Morris is not soft. Extremely laid-back and without much emotion. Sometimes it was tough to pick him out on the floor because he's often all over the floor in the zone defense. He was made to play power forward sometimes and he's too much of a string bean for that.

I'm very concerned about his jumper, his 3 pt percentage this year was only 28.9.He also doesn't take the the ball to the basket very much.I still think he could become a useful role player if he put more effort in the game.I'm glad he had a good workout, but so did Turkcan.

I am not a big fan of Terrace Morris because he doesn't seem to have any leadship qualities on the court at all.

However, Morris has consistly been a better rebounder than Battier (though inferior in all other qualities I can think of), the pick of the litter in terms of NBA ready 3's.

We don't need a 3 to be another team leader (though I'd love to swing a trade for Battier), though one who can play decent D, rebound well, finish the break, and has a decent (not great) shot would be a nice compliment. I certainly would take him with a #23, and agree with posters who think he might be a nice compliment to Mo T--who's rebounding is below average but who's offensive game is more active.

I think the Rox are looking at making the team something of a D.C.-Tacoma Park South: Steve, Mooch, Walt, Webb, Morris, and Cat thrown in for good measure. That's one of their current selling points for Webb.

I agree with rocketbooster, Terrence Morris is BFI (garbage), too soft for the "L" (league). We need some players paint toughness, we largest collection of marshmellow big men in the "L", Mo (no boards) Taylor, Kelvin (no need mention) Cato, Kenny (scissor hands and the same spin move every time) Thomas. Let's trade all 3 for one good player such as Shane Battier who would be permanent fixture at the 3 for years to come. He has more rebounds in the "L" than the those mentioned above.
