The Chronicle tossed us a major bone yesterday, by giving a status of the Rockets free agency. The internet site didn't publish (I couldn't find it), so I will copy the information. It gave contract lengths and deals, but I will just give what the chronicle says they count for. Some interesting things. davo and JuanValdez might be interested in this for their site. Obviously, they didn't figure in unrenounced amounts for the free agents like Mooch.

I'll give player's name, the cap space, and the year they are a free agent. All figures in millions

    Anderson 2.40 2001 player option
    Bulard 2.25 2001
    Cato 6.00 2006
    Langhi .465850 2002 team option
    Francis 3.47 2004
    Collier 1.28 2004 team/2005 player option
    Mobley 4.40 2006 player option
    Norris .50 2001
    Olajuwon 25.00 2001
    Rogers 2.6 2002 team option
    Taylor 2.47 2002 player option
    Thomas .986400 2003 team/2004 player option
    Williams 5.00 2002
    Other* 2.5 NA

    *-Matt Maloney

    Option info (shortened/paraphrased):
-Anderson has the option to become a free agent this year
-Langhi is expected to have his option exercised
-Collier/KT have team options the first year, and player options the 2nd (from rookie contracts)
-Mobley is signed through 2005, with an option for an extra year
-Rogers can become a free agent this year with the team holding the option to extend his contract one more year
-Taylor is signed through 2002, but can opt out this year.

    Things of note
-I never heard anything of Taylor being signed to a 2 year deal. But, it sure makes it clear, and was also repeated in another article. What's up with that?
-The Rogers thing is good news. It was unknown before, but he doesn't fit in Rudy's opinion, and clears up another 2.6 mill
-The Moochie figure is probably slightly rounded by Bender's minimum salaries, he made $523,500. As an early bird, he'll count $680,550 unrenounced
What this means for our salary situation
Under the assumption we renounce everyone except Moochie, our salary total would be 27.28775 million. This includes Francis, Moochie, Mobley, Williams, Langhi, Collier, Cato and Maloney. If the cap is assumed 43 mill, we'd have ~15.7 mill in space. If you keep Anderson unrenounced that's 2.86 mill you subtract. For pick 13, it's 1.1495 mill, and pick 23 (Milwaukee) is $721,500. Without Anderson, you'd have 13.8 mill... enough for CWebb. Anderson+no picks would put you at just over 12.85 in space, probably enough for CWebb, who's max would be 12.9 with a 43 mill salary cap. Unless Olajuwon would accept vet's minimum (1 mill), he's out of the picture.

Personally, I think Dream is too proud to play for a minimum.

I see us losing out on Webber, but bringing in Davis, and bringing back Shan, Dream, Mooch

I've passed it along to the appropriate party who will hopefully scrutinize it for accuracy. Thanks for the heads-up.
