In this writer's opinion, anyway. And it is on the official website, so I'd say it deserves some credibility: http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Play_It_Forward-82457-34.html
See.....when someone started a thread that asked who's going to start in May, I said maybe Mo Taylor. And someone else asked why? UH HUH... Dr of Dunk. Could you please tell me...does Bostjan Nachbar suck? PLAY IT FORWARD! I want more features like this!
They said maybe. The writer did say there was still a possibility of a trade. Anyways this writer was just giving his opinion just like I am so dont expect Mo-T to start.
Mo T is a good go to option for the 2nd unit in the 2nd quarter, so I would keep him on the bench. With Francis, Mobley, and Yao already starting and providing offense, we could save Mo T for the 2nd quarter to provide some offense down low.
I'm pleased to hear this, I've been wanting both of them to start since late last year. Posey and Eddie be damned!
That makes no sense at all. The fact that it's on the Rockets site is exactly why it is juicy, if only a very little bit. If Feigen says he thinks Mo will start, it's likely pure conjecture. When it's on the Rockets site, it's slightly more credible. If the Rockets site was predicting a playoff run, I'd get your point, but they're the ones who'll decide who starts so it's at least something.
move along to what? video game images of Yao in the new uniform? at least this is post has something to do with actual rockets info! keep up the good work BJ!
Given our roster today - I surprised anyone is surprised. EG is not a starter despite last year. He is only a NBA prospect. Nachbar is not a starter - he too is a NBA prospect. Pike and AG are mainly SGs. They may play some SF, but I don't see them starting too many games at SF.
I'm not surprised actually. I like Taylor and AG starting myself (instead of the all-soft squad at forwards), but it's not necessarily a surprise that the reliable vets playing in position would start. What was surprising to me was that the Rockets would publish an article handicapping the starting spots. Taylor starting has serious pros and cons for the offense. Great to have a guy who can drain outside jumpers and punish the double team but terrible to have a second squad with EG and Cato, where neither guy posts up well and neither can really shoot. When Taylor's in and Yao's out, he becomes the beginning of the offense. Dump it to Mo, let him shoot or pass. Inside out doesn't work at all with EG or Cato. I don't like any minutes where neither Yao nor Mo's on the floor.
Barring injury or anything else unforeseen, I would be fairly suprised to see Mo starting over EG come Game 1. Having EG and Mo off the bench means ZERO low post scoring from the reserves. Perhaps JVG knows something we don't.
I actually like Mo's offensive punch coming off the bench, particularly when Yao is on the bench. Towards the end of last season, he showed he can take over a game offensively if he gets enough touches against the other teams #2 power forward. I look for Mo to prove a lot of his naysayers wrong this year. He should be injury free for the first time in a while. He was starting to put it all together towards the end of the season last year. Hopefully, he'll pick up where he left off. If I had it my way, this would be the starting lineup: Stevie Cat AG EG Yao Pretty good defensive lineup to start things out. Then offense with Mo, Rice, Pike and Cato coming off the bench.
It's hard to hide the truth. I agree - Mo starting doesn't bother me but Rice starting does. I don't think Rice has the wheels left to hang through 82 games as a starter. From what I saw last year the only shot Rice has left is the 3pt from the top of the key. And we all know he's not known for his D so...why's he out there? We don't have a better SF. We've got a hugh hole. We can suppliment it with a couple of medium sized SGs but they'll/we'll get killed by some of the better, taller SFs.
I found it an unusual preseason article coming from the Rockets site, and welcome for that reason. It wasn't just, "All our guys are GREAT!! Come buy tickets!"... there was a little meat in there. I thought Mitchell did a good job and has a nice style. I hope they let him have recurring columns and give him some leeway to write about the team. (if he was doing this last season, I missed it) I'm not surprised Taylor is the projected starter, barring a trade. Why else would he have that contract?? He has to start producing... how well he improves defensively will be a good test of the success of Van Gundy and his staff. I agree that we'll have a hole at SF and will cover it by committee, again... barring a trade. It's interesting that the possiblity came up more than once that they may still make a move.
Um, I wasn't trying to insult you. I was just saying there isn't anything revealing. It's the Rockets take of themselves. Its titled like the guy is a Rockets.com employee. I appreciate that it appears they are taking a Van Gundian approach to calling players out a little bit but it isn't telling me anything that they don't want me to know. That's all. Again, I didn't mean to step on the thread, just quipping.
I am sorry but I dont hold Glen Rice so highly as some posters. I think if we are going to get anything out of him he should be kept under observation by a Taxidermist just incase he is needed for the final run to the playoffs. I cant see that he has the ability to be a starter, to describe him as one of the Leagues most pure shooters is only a dream of times gone by. Its about time for our younger players to get experience at the Game. You never know though he might surprise!
I didn't take it personally, B-Ball. I just hadn't heard anything at all from the Rockets camp about Mo having an edge on Eddie for the starting spot and virtually no one here's been predicting Rice to start, so I thought it was newsworthy. Of course they're not telling us anything they don't want us to know. I just found it interesting that projecting a starting lineup didn't fall into that category.
I hear ya. To me, it seemed like they were trying to light a few fires internally under the guise of informing the public.
