HOUSTON -- Rockets star Tracy McGrady doesn't remember all the details about his matchups against Cleveland's LeBron James.

He just knows one minor detail.

"He's never beaten me (since I've been in Houston)," McGrady said. "Hopefully, we can keep that going."

He'll try to add to the streak on Saturday night.

McGrady will have his latest showdown against James when the Rockets host the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday night at Toyota Center. Tip time is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Rockets (10-5) have won all three of their matchups against James when McGrady is on the court.

Since the Cleveland star entered the league as a much-hyped rookie straight out of high school, the duel between the two players has turned into nothing short of a scoring barrage.

McGrady and James have combined to score at least 30 points on nine occasions in their six meetings and have turned in some of the best performances of their careers against one another.

What will happen on Saturday night?

"When you face anybody of his caliber, you're going to bring your A-game," McGrady said. "It's a challenge. He's one of the elite players in this league and when you face him, you got to bring your A-game. And being the competitor that I am, I will."

The two scoring machines have squared off six times since James entered the league, but the duo haven't had a matchup in Houston since 2005. McGrady missed last year's home game against the Cavs with a back injury.

McGrady has gotten the better of James when they have met and Houston has never lost to Cleveland with T-Mac in the lineup.

The Rockets' six-time All-Star is 4-2 against the Cavs in the James era, with both losses coming in McGrady's final season in Orlando.

McGrady has never scored less than 31 points against LeBron's bunch, averaging 35.2 points. James is scoring 22.3 points per game over that same stretch.

The Rockets star will probably find himself guarding James on a handful of occassions, but chances are that Shane Battier will be given the task of chasing Cleveland's young star.

Battier said guarding James is unlike anyone in the NBA.

"He's just so physical," Battier said. "The guy is 6-foot-8 and 250. If he played football, he'd be (like Chicago linebacker) Brian Urlacher. That's the type of play that he uses on the court. With a guy like that, you really play sound fundamental defense because any angle that you give him, he'll take advantage of it. Not since Magic Johnson has somebody had that size and speed. He's probably one of the fastest guys in the NBA."

While both players have the ability to put up big scoring numbers, the latest matchup between McGrady and James could actually turn into a passing affair.

Before Friday night's league action, McGrady and James were tied for 11th in the league in assists with 6.7 per game.

The Rockets' star has actually been more of a playmaker than scorer this season because of two factors -- the emergence of Yao Ming and struggles with his own shot. McGrady. a two-time league scoring champ, is averaging 18.7 points per game.

Despite seeing his scoring numbers take a dip, McGrady said Friday that he is having one of his best seasons.

He said he is worried about what critics think about his game.

"I've been criticized since day one," McGrady said. "That stuff doesn't bother me. I'm getting criticized for being unselfish. How crazy is that? I'm willing to sacrifice my game to make my team and my big man better and I'm being criticized for that. If I go out and average 30 and we're still losing, I'm still getting criticized."

McGrady said the most impressive duel that he's had against James might have come in their first meeting against one another.

During a Christmas Day game in Orlando, McGrady's 41 points were enough to carry the Magic to a 113-101 overtime win over the Cavs. James had 34 points in that 2003 game.

The duo might just have another memorable performance on Saturday night.

"It's always a great matchup," McGrady said. "The only thing I remember about our matchup is his rookie year when we had an unbelievable Christmas Day game. We both put up some big numbers."

    --------

Ok, well since McGrady said it himself that he's gonna bring his A-game, I can't even wait. I like what I hear, I hope I love what I see tomorrow night.

This is basically the true test to see if T-Mac still has it in him. He always performs against the top players, and if he isn't able to pull it off tomorrow, especially after making such statements, there is something really wrong. I'm not gonna lose hope on him, but I will basically have decided that he really isn't able to play like his usual self and will need more time/games to get back in form. As I have stated before, T-Mac always brings when playing against people like LeBron and Kobe. They know what he can do, and he knows that he can play better than either of them when at his best.

I've been waiting for a T-Mac/LeBron matchup since the season started, I have high expectations like always. Can't wait to see what goes down, it's for the home crowd so you Houstonians and Red Rowdies better be defeaning and get entertained by the league's best.

I can't be the only one that's a bit bothered by this kind of statement. Every night in the NBA your opponent is going to have at least 1 player that you should counter with your A-game is you want to win. It shouldn't be a selective thing. You think Duncan and Nowitzki only bring it when they see KG on the schedule? You think Wade only brings it when he sees his next game is against the Lakers? Thinking like that will get you nowhere. Well, actually it'll probably get you to the first round for 6, maybe 7 games.

By the way, what does it tell us if McGrady goes for 41/8/8 on 50% shooting and takes the ball to the basket all night long against the Cavs? I say it tells us that he's not as motivated as he should be on a nightly basis.

I agree. McGrady is lacking all kinds of motivation to play, it is very apparent in the way he has played this year. You could kind of tell last year, that he just isn't the same player mentally as he was in years past. I remember there was a point right before the all star break where he was dealing with depression and things like that. I don't want to instigate anything or say anything that might offend someone, but I feel that he might of lost his love for the game. I remember watching TNT once and TMac was seriously considering retiring when his contract is up with the rox. Let's hope not and that I hope he starts playing inspired basketball soon.

once again, sina.com translated the article without a single word mentioning Damien Pierce
Rockets.com. It just looks like they did the interview.

why they can keep doing this and not getting sued? I hate that website.

Well, if T-Mac is going to just bring an A game towards players like Lebron, Kobe, then we better hope we play against Lakers in playoff and Cleveland in the final.

LeBron is a beast, I think he is better than MJ was at the same age. He is the new Jordan, no doubt in my mind. Yes Kobe was dominant against the Jazz, but LeBron is the best player in the league. And he keeps improving. LeBron is a combination of the greatest qualities of the greatest players in NBA history. I didn't think anyone would ever top MJ, but I think LeBron will, he just needs to get on the right team.

Man, you already have a statement prepared that negatively attacks tmac b4 the fact...ie b4 the game starts and just in case he does bring it and goes off with a high pt double-double.
As long as we are winning, who the hell cares if he brings his A game for kobe, lebron, dwade, dirk, duncan, shaq and his b game for everything else. I guarantee TMAC will be an animal in the playoffs

There's nothing wrong with my statement. If it didn't have truth to it then I wouldn't have made it.

As for the "as long as we're winning, who cares?" argument...I care. I'm not interested in making the playoffs and getting bounced. We can't and won't beat the top teams without Tracy bringing his A-game on the regular. Detroit, Utah, New Orleans, San Antonio, Phoenix all apparently still have our number at this point and 3 or 4 of those teams could potentially be in our way come playoff time. In short, I'm not happy with winning 60 games unless we can consistently beat the top teams. Winning a ton of games in the regular season doesn't earn that trophy. Ask Dallas.

I too want the roxs to beat the good teams...thats A no brainer. However, it is unrealistic to expect tmac to bring his a game every single game. I am concerned with tmac staying healthy. If tmac is taking it to the rack and dunking every other play...good luck seeing tmac in the post season. He will have nothing left. The fact is they can win games, including key games against detroit, miami, Phoenix, SA, Dallas, Utah and do this as a team...it takes 5...you are not a fool, are you? ;) Tell me, what good is 60 wins including wins over the aforementioned teams, if tmac is limping in the post season?

remember its really tmac out there and not a video game

The bottom line is that if Tracy is going to be so fragile that he has to be coddled for 82 games, we're not winning jack anyway. Taking his foot off the gas for the last 15 games or so? That's one thing. An entire season is not going to work.

Not to argue with you BUT these pics were from LAST season...remember?

After last year, he does need to be careful or coddled as you say for the whole year and you can't say that means roxs don't win crap. The regular season is helps teams put together Ws and hone their product for the post season...once you are in the playoffs anything and I mean ANYTHING can happen.....but not if tmac looks like he does in those pics

he has had the back spasms, back injury, hip injury, broken nose...see pick below, you name it...we have to use him intelligently
