    Keith Bogans

    (on joining the Rockets)
“I think it’s going to be great. I’m getting to play with some great guys on a great team. I just want to come in and do whatever I can to help.”

(on what he brings to the Rockets)
“I think I bring more defense, more energy. Mainly, just defense, I think that’s what my job will be.”

(on whether he met with Jeff Van Gundy)
“Yeah, I met with Jeff this morning. He told me everything he wanted me to do, just to play hard and play defense.”

(on whether he can help turn this season around)
“I feel like I can come in and contribute. I’m going to try to do whatever I can to come in and help us win games.”

(on whether this is an opportunity to take his career to the next level)
“Right now I just need to come in and learn the system. Try to get out on the floor, get some minutes, and work my way in there. Right now I just want to learn Jeff’s system, play defense and have fun.”

(on what he heard about Jeff Van Gundy)
“Tough, he’s hard nosed, that’s what a lot of guys told me. I played for Tubby (Smith) in college, and I expect a little more than what he gave me. That’s what I need, a guy that will be up in my face, making me get better. I’m just going to take that as a plus and get better.”

    (on how his knee is)
“The knee is fine. I haven’t played in a while, but I’m ready to go now. I practiced today, went the full practice, full contact, the knee is good.”

    Jeff Van Gundy

(on Keith Bogans and whether he will be activated tomorrow)
“Yeah, he’ll play. I think he has size as a defender at two and obviously David and Luther, both at like 6’1”, isn’t exactly what you want. You don’t want guys of similar stature at the same position who are small. Hopefully, he can give us a boost so we don’t have to double as much in the post.”

(on how hard it is to work a guy into his system)
“I don’t think it’s hard. He’s not in good shape; that’s the number one thing because he’s been out a while with his knee injury, so that will be the hardest thing for him.”

(on what the Bogans move means for Derek Anderson)
“Derek and I had a meeting yesterday that was scheduled before he said he was asking for a meeting. Since we already had a meeting scheduled, I found it interesting that he we asking for a meeting. He was brought in here to help a good team make a move up, and we certainly aren’t in the same position as we were at the start of the year. He’s missed 29 straight games since Dec. 14 and not really been on the practice floor. Since I knew we would be trading for Keith (Bogans), I thought it would be the right time to get together and see how we would move forward. We both came to the conclusion that it would be best if we tried to find another team for him. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”

(on why they reached that decision with Anderson and Jon Barry’s status)
“It benefits us because we get out of the second year of his contract and we have more roster flexibility going forward, and frankly, this is no knock on him, but what you don’t want to do is surround McGrady, who’s had some health issues; we need to get bigger and a little more durable back there. We got into a situation this year where the two guys we had to protect McGrady fell by the wayside. I think it will be good for him. He would be best served on a very good team because he’s a very, very bright player and he will be able to help somebody, certainly. As far as Barry, he’s played in five games and played 29 minutes since Nov. 25, and he said he was healthy before back in January and he got hurt again. He likes to talk, but he knows where he stands because I’ve met with him a few times.”

    (more on Anderson’s situation)
“I’m just saying it’s in both of our interests right now for him to be someplace else. For him, it gives him a chance to play more than he’ll play here and also to get with a team with a better record and also try to establish his contract for next year. For us it gives us flexibility not to have the second year of his contract and Keith Bogans is a restricted free agent – we can see how that works out for us the rest of the year, and then we have right of first refusal. Derek was a true pro while he was here; he’s a great guy, he’s smart as heck and he’ll be a great addition to some other team.”

    (on Jon Barry)
“We played 11 games in 18 days, so I hadn’t seen him do much more than spot shoot. Today was the first day he practiced – he did all right. Like I said, he’s played 29 minutes since Nov. 25. The way we shoot, I’m not keeping a secret weapon on the bench for no reason. At the same time I like what Keith Bogans brings to us. That doesn’t mean that Jon isn’t going to be activated or not play. In part, he had one really good game with Yao and Tracy in the lineup. He really needs good players to play good around him, and I think really good players benefit from having him out on the floor, but because of their injuries and his injuries, he hasn’t really played very well since the first game.

whoa..very interesting about DA, i had really high hopes for him to come here and contribute when we signed him, but he obviously didn't live up to expectations...hopefully we can get some value in return for him as his biggest contribution to the team... GOOD LUCK DA!!

it also sounds as tho gollum was hinting that he doesn't want to keep both wes and head, so hopefully we can package wes (and mooch please?) and his expiring contract with DA to get a key piece, so we can finally develop our young talent (head)

JVG has said nothing derogartory about DA, and vice versa. I'm glad that this is being handled professionally (so far, at least).

Yeah, it seems Wesley and Barry could both be potentially on the trading block. Although, it does not make sense because those two guys are our best perimeter shooters. If either one of them is going away we better be getting some pretty high % jumpshooting in return.

I don't see why it wouldn't be. I think that if DA hadn't gotten hurt then this isn't an issue but the team has kind of moved on without him and I think both sides recognize that, I wish DA well and hope we get something good in return.

Now everyone is hating on DA. However, remember this, he turned down bigger contract offers from the Lakers to play with Yao and Tmac and get a championship. And now see how this thing has turned out.

Everything seems to be falling apart...

he may have not been derogatory but that has a mo taylor feel to the situation. wow, I can't believe he's saying that about a player he went out and aquired. and the comments "he was brought in here to help a good team move foward, and we certainly aren’t in the same position as we were at the start of the year may not be derogatory but it sure isn't a ringing endorsement.

The way I read it is that this season is #$%*ed. DA wants to play for a team moving up and JVG is thinking about flexibility for next year.

I think that DA isn't needed because JVG is going to stick with Luther Head now. Before all of the injuries began, the plan was to stash Luther on the bench this season. But now that the season has crashed, JVG wants to leave Luther out there and develop him more. And DA doesn't want to ride the pine at this point in his career, so he wants out.

I think people are reading too much into it. DA was brought here for a purpose. Things didn't work out the way they were supposed to, now the team has had to move on without him, and hence this situation. It's unfortuante, but it's not anybody's fault in particular. Good luck to DA. I hope we get something real valuable in return for him.

I thought DA's option for the second year was a player option (according to Hoopshype). The way JVG is speaking it sounds like its a team option. Anybody know?

Doesn't prevent him from being traded AFAIK ... and besides, the agreement is mutual, so player/team option is irrelevant.

    It's a player option.

Well, looks like along withDA, Wesley and Barry might be on the move.

I never really cared for DA since he hasn't been around much, and when he did play for Houston he looked like crap.

hmmmm, if DA seems to be such a good player/person, why wouldn't just keep him and use him? Flexibility?? How about wins? We have plenty of expiring contracts to provide flexiblity. I don't get it, but that's probably just b/c I'm so tired of the trade this and trade that talk. I want a damn team I can get behind, win or lose, without wondering if the player I cheer will be here next week :\

according to most people here so did Rafer, but he was given a chance. DA hasn't really had much of a chance it seems. :( I really would have liked to see him do something here. He can create for himself...we really need someone else that can do that.

    Good person? yes.

Good player? The jury's still out. And we don't have any time left to sit around waiting for their verdict. That's what I see happening here. The Rockets have decided that they have to move on, without Derek Anderson.

For the last time people, Jon Barry can NOT be traded. His contract does not allow it. Nor will he want to be traded unless it's the Pistons or Spurs. This is his LAST year.

JVG never bashes anybody he wants to get rid of. Remember Wink and Cat? Only good things he said about them. This is just JVG's political correct style. I bet you 100 bucks it's not becayse DA's injury prone or salary flexibilty. There had to be a feud between these two off the court and JVG just felt DA doesnt fit anymore. To DA's defense, he did play hard while he was healthy and got injured badly on a bad knee because he insisted to play.
