http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Higher_Learning-287072-34.html Really interesting article! Thanks Jason. FLW references in a basketball article... nice. Edit: try it now Durvasa
The link appears to be broken. And I couldn't find that article on Rockets.com. I agree with that view. I think it's why fans need to be more level-headed after close losses and close wins. There's a tendency to overrate what happens in the closing minutes of a close game. Sure, there's something to say about the poise and clutchness of a team, but often those close games come down to randomness.
weird link doesn twork for me so i had to go to rockets site... Very interesting story. Thanks for sharing fritz. You are a great writer.
Thanks for the fix, Hayesfan. Great, great read. Morey gets a ton of credit here, but where I hear any Rockets personnel asked about the job Morey is doing, invariably Sam Hinkie will get some credit as well. From a fans perspective, I guess he's more behind the scenes. But he sounds like he could be just as important.
nice article Jason...thanks. question though about this comment of yours: Was this one of the games Luther didn't play? Did Hinkie really not mention him, because Adelman is quoted several times referring to Barry and Head playing well together.
Very interesting read, but where is Rick Adelman in all this? How do these guys relate to the ground-level coaching staff? It's one thing to have theories about good basketball, but it's another to be able to convince old-school types to implement them in a away they would be useful.
One of the most interesting reads in a long time. Thanks, Jason. Rockets.com is markedly more interesting with you at the editorial helm. Hope you can push the powers-that-be for more insightful, less obvious, less traditional pieces like these. As an aside, maybe think about floating this link to Bill Simmons, Deadspin and the like. Other sports geeks would be interested in this kind of perspective. You don't see it much.
I just want to add the following: Jason Friedman = most underrated Rockets acquisition of the offseason Awesome article.
best article I've read in a long time. Enjoyed comparisons of the defenses of Shane and Ron. Keep up the great work Jason.
[BR /]1st, great article. [BR /]2nd, I had the same thought when Jason mentions the minute allocation. I thought the coach determined how many minutes a guy earns, from watching a guy practice. I wonder how much of the analysis data is gathered during practice time, is it exclusive to game time? And that's why it was a great article, it got me thinking!
Awesome read! Rockets.com promoted to #2 in best place for Rockets info. Clutchfans #1. chron.com #3.
think of how much more intelligence clutch fans threads would contain if all members read this article and retained this information? This whole forum could use some "higher learning" so we could avoid threads like "get rid of chuck hayes" and "battier is overrated".
Sam is a great guy and I have enjoyed interacting with him the past several years. He is very accessible for someone of this position and yes, he is very important to basketball ops side of things. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes over a franchise at some point should be decide to leave Houston.
That was an awesome article. It really gave us a sneak peek into the player evaluating process that the front office currently uses. Jason, I am really looking forward to your other pieces watching the game with Morey and co. during the upcoming season.
