A small stone of Taylor trade.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&id=1983470

    "I'm hearing ...

That Houston and Portland have discussed a Maurice Taylor-for-Derek Anderson swap. ...

And that Mo Cheeks was indeed prepared to resign when the Blazers originally resisted suspending Darius Miles for insubordination. Team president Steve Patterson stepped in, according to sources, and hit Miles with the two-game penalty.

And that LeBron James would be highly disappointed if the Cavaliers elected not to re-sign center Zydrunas Ilgauskas ... and greatly thrilled if they can pull off the Michael Redd free-agent heist from Milwaukee this summer. LeBron is a big Redd fan, but the Cavs aren't likely to have maximum salary-cap room to offer if they re-sign Big Z.

Interesting. DA is another 2 guard. But if we can get rid of Mo's big salary which is sitting in the dog house, I would defintely do it. I think their salary dont match. Blazer needs to throw in someone else to make it equal. What's DA's contract situation. Man, why arent there any pure PG out there, that's all we need.

Jan 31 Anderson likely will be sidelined several more days, as he recovers from a dental procedure and a sinus infection. The Trail Blazers' guard, who has missed the team's last three games, will be evaluated on a daily basis. Due to inconsistent play, Anderson lost his starting job earlier this month. In seven games since, he is averaging just 5.9 points, 2.6 assists and 16.3 minutes per contest.
Advice: Damon Stoudamire and Nick Van Exel will continue to see the majority of the backcourt minutes for the Blazers, with Richie Frahm and Sebastian Telfair serving as backups.

Uh, yeah... because Portland's most pressing need right now is an expensive power forward to backup Zach Randolph and Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

I really think D.A. would be more attractive trade bait than MoT would right now

    A line up of:

    Sura / Wesley / Strickland /Barret
    Anderson / Wesley / Barry
    McGrady / Barry / Bowen
    Howard / Padgett / Spoon
    Yao / Mt.

doesn't sound too bad. I really liked Anderson when he was on the Spurs; great slasher and three point threat. I would rather Wesley play PG, at least he wouldn't have as much of a height disadvantage, and anything to get rid of Taylor is a good thing.

He can't shoot very well tho.

FA in summer of 2007, Taylor is the same right?

I'd love Derek Anderson. Even broke down, like now. Good passer, good shooter-only from mid-range. Nice year a couple back.

    exit Mo, enter DA.

Hmm. Portland must be mulling an exit from Zach Randolph and keeping Shareef.

That is one messed up franchise. To think they were THIS close a few years back when Bavetta gave them the choke signal.

I would love to swap Mo for Anderson (a legit scorer than can spare Mac some valuable minutes + former team mate of Padget) but isn't he injured now?

The good news is that Stein broke this news not Ford but then again everyone knows that Mo is being shopped so it could just be another far fetched rumour.

Derrick sallary for this season and the next 2 respectively is $8,443,500 - $9,093,000 and $9,742,500. Kinda high but maybe be worth it since it seems like Mo has reach then of his road. But then again why would Portland want another PF when they already have SAF and that Spartan.

Just checked, Real GM says that they both are Unrestricted FA's in the summer of 2007. We are playing fine without Taylor right now, I don't think it would matter if we traded him away.

Also, they have similar salaries (ranked 53rd and 52nd overall, Taylor being 52nd).

    The salaries match alright......

    Mo's including this season = $8,450,000 --- $9,100,000 --- $9,750,000

    DA's including this season = $8,443,500 --- $9,093,000 --- $9,742,500

Both will be FA after the 2006/07 season.

Derek Andersen & Mo Taylors contracts are as close to identical as you can get without being the same.

Portland will be well under the cap next year according to hoops hype. SAR, Stoudamire, Ratliff & Van Exel all coming off the books.

Ok, why would Portland want to do this trade? They've got Zach, Ratliff, SAR, Miles, all can play that 4 spot. They are kida thing on the guard positions, without D.A. there is only Stoudmire, Nick, and Telfair. D.A might have more serious injury than dental infection.

    Mo T for Derek Anderson

Stein on ESPN with a rumor about this today. I know it's marc stein, but if it were to happen--what do you think? Do we really need another guard. I was think more like a rebounder/defender in the low post.

I guess it is all about sura's knee. I doubt he can last the rest of the season. We need another 1 or 2, just in case sura goes on IL.

Miles is still too scrawny to be a 4, Ratliff is a 5, and SAR is extremely likely to be gonzo after this year (he's a FA).

They'll probably keep either NVE or Stoudamire after this year. Miles, is pretty unmoveable with that contract, attitude, and holes in his game, and Patterson is also a 3.

They've been extremely backcourt/perimeter heavy draftwise the past couple years- Telfair, Outlaw, Monia, Khrypya in the last 2 years.

micah- Ratliff is not going to be a FA.

Anderson fills the mold we've seen recently of what we've been adding to our backcourt. Barry, Wesley, and Sura are all 1.5s- 2 guards with excellent passing ability - good enough when put together, along with TMac, hides the need for a pure PG. Anderson played some PG in college and with the Clips, iirc. He's an excellent athlete, and awesome on the fast break. Consistently injured, however. His shooting is on and off, but the only time he really played on a team with weapons, in San Antonio, he shot 40% from beyond the arc.

A Derek Anderson that contributes when healthy is better than what we're getting from Mo. I'd do it.

all points are true, as well as the fact that they have pondered trading Randolph and a Mo for Anderson trade could trigger something greater for Portland on the horizon. Steve Patterson will bring that team back to respectability if it kills him.

I also think this has merit because Portland and Houston have proven to be good trading partners over the years

I think that getting guys like Marshall may be out, simply because their GM wants too much for a 6th man
