http://monterdraftnews.rivals.com/default.asp?sid=634&p=2&stid=7972540 The Houston Rockets started out slow in the Rocky Mountain Revue, losing their first two games by 18 and ten points. However, they have been on a roll ever since as they scored a Rocky Mountain Revue-high 100 points in their easy 100-84 win over the Chicago Bulls. The Rockets were the last team in the ten-team event to win a game, but they finished 4-2 and the Bulls completed the event at 2-4. Houston led after one quarter 29-22 and expanded their lead to 61-38 at halftime as they outscored the Bulls 32-16 in the second period. The 32 points were the most scored by any team in the Rocky Mountain Revue and the 61 points at halftime were also a tournament-high. Moochie Norris had twelve points and Andre Branch added eleven for the Rockets at halftime. Houston was led by a balanced attack with five players scoring double figures. Andre Branch led the Rockets with 17 points. Dan Langhi added 14 points on six of 12 shooting and Moochie Norris had 12 points and nine assists. Kenny Thomas chipped in eleven and last year's second round pick Tyrone Washington had ten points. Rookie Jason Collier, who got three fouls in the first 6:15 of the game, added nine points and five rebounds for the Rockets. Chicago also had five double figure scorers. They were led by last year's first round pick Ron Artest with a game-high 18 points. He was six of 15 from the field. Junior Burrough added 13 and Corey Benjamin and Marcus Fizer added eleven points each. Fizer, who added seven rebounds and five assists, was ejected from the game after arguing with a referee while sitting on the team's bench. Rookie Khalid El-Amin had ten points and second year player Michael Ruffin added ten rebounds and six points for Chicago. Second round pick A.J. Guyton had seven points. Jamal Crawford did not play, due to a calf injury after being accidentally kicked in last night's game The following is the player's points, rebounds and assists. Mooch with 12 and 9....Washington had a nice 10 point, 9 board game as well. Branch played very well too. Who all makes will be interesting. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
That looks pretty impressive. It would have been a little better had Fizer been there the whole game. But, hey, look at the bright side. Fizer may have been thrown out because he was saying, "I want to play on that team." ------------------
look at Fizer's assists....a very nice 5 ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
These guys were tired today. Stais shot at least three airballs. Collier couldn't stretch to get more than half of his hand over the rim. Langhi only shot 50% from the field. It was pretty pathetic. That being said, the Bulls looked much worse. Crawford didn't play and the depleted Bulls played a combo of Khalid and A.J. at the #1 spot. Khalid fouled out w/ a few minutes left in the third. One really interesting fact... Kenny Thomas had his way with Marcus Fizer. Four trips down, he drew three fouls on Marcus Fizer. Obviously frustrated, Fizer was ejected when he erupted after KT bodied up a player and got the defensive rebound. KT is not timid in the least... alot of his plays came off of 'resets' (if that's a word) where the off guard was trying to create space on the right hand key. KT would put the ball on the floor (instead of giving it back to Stais/Andre), do the hobble dobble and usually come up w/ points, a foul or both. I am beginning to like T. W. and Axel Dench more and more. Axel Dench fits in so much better than Jason Collier, although Collier played well in mismatches (he scored primarily against Khalid off of pick & rolls). Axel rebounded well, played better than average defense, and shot well with range. I was excited today to see Tyronne Washington shoot 3 shots today from the FT line and a little bit beyond... a couple of days ago he missed 3 foot shots. His defense and boarding is above average though his height is of concern. Perhaps his strength can offset any disadvantages under the basket. It seems that Dench and T. W. have a fairly good bond... during the shootarounds they spent time playing against one another and it seemed as if they shared an SUV together as well. As T.W. is known to say "At the end of this practice, I'm going to have Alex Dench's stench all over me." Lorenzo Johnson is a banger. I thought he played rather well blocking out and intimidating. He only received a few minutes before the half though, so it was hard to get an accurate opinion of him. All in all, I wish the best for all of the players (except for that lazy SOB Alex Jensen ). Mark Young, Stais and Andre fought hard this week; however, news of Cuttino's resigning suggests that the bigger players (Dench, T. W.) are more apt to fill in any extraneous poisitioning. p.s. Where are Darkhorse and slcrocket? I would have taken digital photos and notes if I knew they were going on vacation. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000 [This message has been edited by Achebe (edited July 28, 2000).]
"Langhi only shot 50% from the field" Geez, since when is 50% for a guy who is shooting mostly perimiter jumpers a bad thing? ------------------
stringthing: that was a bit of a joke. Dan Langhi in his most tired moments still amazes me. People that think that he won't get upwards of 20 minutes a game are joking themselves. He was guarding Fizer for part of the second quarter and being fairly successful (giving up about 45-60 lbs.). It was mostly just the transients in during the fourth quarter, or else Langhi could have easily scored another 6 points or so. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000
Achebe, Couldn't agree more on Dan. I really hope he gets minutes early in the season to get his legs under him and to log minutes against front line competition. Here is a guy who really plays with some attitude. He seems to have a scorers mentality. You cant teach that. How many days till Halloween? ------------------
Dang, I think Langhi's awesome too! I guess I didn't see Langhi getting more than twenty minutes a game cuz we've got Anderson, Walt, and Mobley too. I didn't realize I was joking myself, but it would be cool if I was, cuz I like watching Langhi play more than Walt. ------------------
oakdogg, sorry, didn't realize that you had actually posted exactly that. It must have been subliminal... On second thought, it will be hard to get Langhi more than 20 minutes. Matt Bullard only played 18 mpg in the 56 games he played. Walt Williams played 25 mpg and was 65%+ from the field in the last ~20 games. Dang. Here's to Dan Langhi having a really effective 15 mpg. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000
Achebe-- Sorry, man, I've been working all damn week. The ONLY game I got to catch of the entire Revue was vs. Toronto. I tried to get off work, but...anyways, I wish I could have been there. ------------------ Jazzkiller
The interesting thing about Langhi is that, unlike some people, he would do well in 15 minutes a game. It takes some people 10-15 minutes to get rolling, but Langhi looks like he might possibly be one of those guys who could come in at any time and start lighting it up. Here's hoping. ------------------
