First off I am a huge Rockets fan, and I let it be known around work. So being the douche-bags that they are, my co-workers have been ragging on me ever since we lost our top 3 players to injury/free-agency. One co-worker is particularly adept at the whole kicking when down routine. So finally today I got fed up with it and told him to put his money where his mouth is.

I took the Rockets, and he took a team that he claimed would be better, the Golden State Warriors. The bet is simple: who's ever team has the better record at the end of the year, wins. IMO this should be NO contest, unless we tank. So I even gave him odds. 1.35:1

So we started arguing about something else afterwards and we ended up betting on 2 more teams. This time it was my OKC Thunder against his Sacromento Kings. I gave him 1.3:1 odds. I am not as confident with this one.

I know this is a Rockets forum, so bias is expected, but what do you guys think? I mean, the Warriors? C'mon.

BTW this was all for fun, I didn't mortgage my house on it or anything. He was too much of a pansy to take that. ;)

I'd say him winning both bets isn't out of the question.

Nothing is impossible. But I certainly wouldn't BET on it. If I were him that is.

You shoulda used his competitive nature against him and just went straight odds.

The original bet was straight odds. But with a qualifier that if Tracy Mcgrady returns before Jan. 1st, the odds increase to 2:1.

I offered 1.35:1, regardless of when Mcgrady returns. This is because I highly suspect he will be in uniform. Early.

Id be surprised if the Rockets didnt finish better than the Warriors. I would also think that the Thunder would finish better than the Kings... Could go either way with both of those though.

i think you're WAY better off with your 2nd bet than your 1st.

Good chance of both, but i'd say you're pretty good in terms of getting a split at least

One thing going for you with the Warriors/Rockets bet is the coaching situation. I don't think the key players are none too happy with Nelie, and mutiny may not be out of the question.

    Same here.

I think your second bet is a sure thing... First bet.. ehhh not so much. Especially with the odds you gave him. How much did you bet on it? If you dont mind me asking.

$500 split between the 2 bets, so $250 each.

The one thing I worry about with Golden State is Anthony Randolph. He seems to be on the verge of a break out. Not an allstar, but a near star is not out of the question. Other than that, their roster is the same as last year, besides basically swapping Jamal Crawford for Stephen Curry. Whom will basically be a poor man's Jamal Crawford anyways, in his rookie year at least.

On the other hand, I am holding out hope for Tmac's return. I may be totally off on that, which would cripple my chances. But I think he will return, and play well. With even a 85% Mcgrady, I believe we are playoff bound. Add to that the improvement in Brooks, Landry, Scola, Lowry and Ariza. Also the addition of Andersen, and I like our chances. We may not be championship contenders without Yao, but we are at least ahead of Golden State, IMHO.

Now my homerism may have totally blinded me on this, and I will pay the price for my ignorance. However those were my thoughts going into the bet.

I'd say your bets are pretty good. I'm more confident in the second one but I think those are 2 legit bets.

Your good on both ends, I'd bet the house on both of those bets.
