NBA Sleepers - October 30, 2006 The Houston Rockets finished last season at 34-48, but that record was a little misleading. Houston was 21-10 in games that Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming played together in, and 13-38 when one or both were injured. Knowing that they were too dependant on their “dynamic duo”, Houston added two more pieces to the puzzle in Shane Battier and Bonzi Wells. Battier is an extremely unselfish player who fills up the stat sheet. Wells looks for his shot a lot more, but he is filling a valuable role as a sixth man extraordinaire. Juwan Howard is back at the power forward position, and he has aged gracefully at 33 years-old. There is some concern at the point guard position where Rafer Alston likes to push the ball, and that doesn’t fit the style of the rest of the players or coach Jeff Van Gundy. It is the Rockets slow-down style that gives them hope of a deep run in the playoffs. Play in the post-season slows down for all teams, as officials call the games a lot tighter. If this team is jelling down the stretch, they could make things interesting at 25:1 odds to win the NBA championship.
Howard has aged gracefully at 33 ?!? Oh well, these props are usually sucker bets....but,at 25 - 1,I'll take the Rockets.Gotta balance it out though with the Heat,Bulls, and Spurs.
I would put $100 down on that. I don't know the first thing about betting. Is their a way to do it withoug contacting the mob, lol...
Station Casinos here in Vegas (Red Rock, Sunset, Green Valley Ranch, et. al.) has the Rockets at 20:1. But that number was before Bonzi came on board so it might actually be lower now. They should be releasing new numbers this week once final roster cuts are made.
i'm putting 50 on the rockets to make this season even sweeter when they shock the world with a chmpionship.
Had a buddy who was in Vegas two weeks ago and he put $20 on the Rockets at 17:1 at the Bellagio for me.
Am I the only one not that optimistic about this season? I even bought season tickets for the first time, but somehow, Tracey and Yao have not seemed very impressive this preseason. At 25 to 1, I might put $10 for entertainment value.
I put $20 at 18-1. ....also put $10 at Novak for the rookie of the year (40-1), I know this isnt happening, I just like this kid so much that I couldn't help. Hi Steve, strive to please me!
I put $50 on them at the beginning of the summer (before any additions) at Cesear's when the odds were 50:1, I could win $2500...................Go Rockets... Actually, first sports bet ever but my buddies told me to put my money were my mouth was, which I kindly did........
Am I the only one who is offended by this mockery? 1.San Antonio............(5:1) 2.Dallas Mavericks.......(5:1) 3.Miami Heat..............(11:2) 4.Phoneix Suns...........(11:2) 5.Detroit Pistons.........(8:1) 6.Cleveland Cavaliers...(15:1) 7.Chicago Bulls...........(15:1) 8.New Jersey Nets......(18:1) 9.Houston Rockets......(25:1) 10.Denver Nuggets......(35:1) These idiots must be on some serious medication!!! There is no way that these teams have a better shot at winning a championship over the Rockets!!! That I'm willing to bet on.!!!
