Dennis Lindsay and Mike Wells were on 610 this morning and had some interesting comments about their picks and other players. Here's the gist... They are thrilled about getting Griffin. He was their "dream" pick - the guy they would've taken if they had the #1 pick. They are not concerned about character issues and said he is a good kid. Lindsay said that he was guilty of Griffin's transgression in high school himself. They believe he is a 4 with 3 skills who can play multiple positions and fits the Rockets perfectly. They are very happy about landing Morris as well. They would've taken him with one of their three picks if they kept them. They did NOT take him to please Francis. They love his skills and said that, above all else, he is a "team" player who really wants to be part of a system and considers his teammates family. They are planning to "aggressively pursue" Maurice Taylor in the offseason. They believe that Griffin's talents are a great fit WITH Taylor (no Webber now???) and they are happy about the way the team fits together. Finally, they are picking up the option on Dan Langhi and he fits into their "long-term plans." They said he has worked out very hard already this summer and is improving. They think he fits with this team very well even with Griffin and Morris. By the way, they said that when the deal for Griffin was finalized, their war room was in complete chaos! ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
He is a 4, does that mean HP gets to keep his handle? I think Langhi will be playing this year..FINALLY !!! GO ROCKETS...to bad we have to wait 3 months to figure out who is on the team. Maybe no Webber now. DaDakota ------------------ If you like RTS games, check out this one. www.frontierwars.com coming soon to a PC near you.
Dadak, Read the part about us agressively resigning Mo... Griffin will still start at SF, and HP will lose his bet. Personally, I think you'll see Griffin and Mo as our forwards of the future, and while they'll start at the 3 and 4, I think we'll see a lot of Griffin at the 4 and the 5, and some of Mo at the 5 as well. Each of them may have a defined position in the starting lineup, but both, and esp. Eddie, will be playing lots of different spots based on scenarios... P.S.-- Is anyone still in shock over this? It hasn't sunk in yet for me I don't think... we'll bring back all the pieces from last year, and we just added Eddie Griffin and Terence Morris to that team. And we still will get someone in free agency. Unreal. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! Thought I'd give this thread a little bump up since it's almost off the first page... Griffin will be the 3 with Mo at the 4. Actually, this will lessen the load on both of Cato and Taylor immediately with rebounding and defense. The fact that they discussed his potential at 4 means he can play both spots. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
sounds to me like Morris has to beat out Langhi for Crisco to win the bet. We may very well see Taylor slide over the SF, as he said he would do if Webber came. Feigan has Griffin listed as the PF in the paper today. j/k Crisco wins. And my side can take solace in the fact we are definitely beefing up the frontline power with Griffin, as well. What a glorious day!!

Bumping thread for great info. Don't want to see r****ded threads crush a thread with actual info in it. ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
I wouldn't be surprised if PF is Griffin's EVENTUAL position. For the next few years, though, I'd plan on him starting at SF. He needs to muscle up a bit before playing the 4 permanently. But with his shot-blocking skills, I do think the 4 will be his long-term place. Taylor is too slow to play the 3, so I'll still keep my monicker . I think the real battle in training camp will be betwen Langhi and Morris. Both of them are probably quite able to be first-rate back-ups. But I don't think either of them can play the 2 or 4, either... so they're going to be competing for some limited minutes. Stay tuned... ------------------ Newbiehad... coming to a bbs near you, October 31st.
I think of Griffin as a Shareef Abdur Rahim type of player. Reef plays both SF and PF depending on the situation. Guys like Robert Horry and Shawn Marion are also decent comparisons in terms of the style of play. My guess is he will be a "forward" and play both spots at different times. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
Completely off-subject: Jeff, if you have an email for someone appropriate in the Rockets, I think you should send them an e-card thank you note from the BBS. As for the Taylor/Webber debate: I don't see why Griffin changes the target here. We still need Webber's rebounding and low-post scoring. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
JuanValdez: But we'd run into the same problems we did with Hakeem this year, except worse. Webber's going to want the ball... a LOT. He needs it to really play his game well. With Francis, Mobley, and Griffin... that's difficult. My revised list of desired PF's: 1. Antonio Davis 2. Chris Webber 3. MO Taylor Any of these guys would make me happy. And since these are the guys we're most likely to acquire... I have a good chance of being satisfied . Davis is first because he's so versatile. Webber's 2nd because he's a superstar... and can rebound. Taylor's 3rd because... as good as his chemistry is with the Rockets, I don't think Griffin's rebounding virtues will completely compensate for Taylor, particularly since we're not going to have anyone exceptional at C. ------------------ Newbiehad... coming to a bbs near you, October 31st.
As for the Taylor/Webber debate: I don't see why Griffin changes the target here. We still need Webber's rebounding and low-post scoring. JV, We probably just picked up the rebounding and low post scoring we need to be successful last night. Yes, we can use more. But my concern is about touches. We aren't trying to build the all-star team here. We know Steve and Cat will get their touches, and we know Griffin will need to get his to become as great as he can be. We need a power forward who can score, but not one who commands the ball a lot, and not one who needs the ball all the time to be effective. If we get Webber, you have to give him the ball on the block a whole lot if you want to have him at his peak, and that will take away from Griffin's development. In addition, don't forget that Mo is just 24 years old... Webber is 29. He's in his prime right now, and last time I checked, he wasn't near the player he is now at 24. I'm not saying Mo will be as good as Chris-- what I am saying is that he fits great with chemistry, and he has a lot of areas in which he can still develop. If we put Steve, Cuttino, Eddie, and Mo on the floor and let them develop as individuals and as a unit, this team could be a contender for years. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! Wait till you see Griifin play- You won't be thinking anymore about webber. Griffin has the kind of shotblocking and athleticism that Dream as a rook PLUS Griffin's post up game and shot is superior to where Dream was in '84 This guy was the best player in the draft- that is going to turn out several all-stars I cannot believe we are not 'dreaming' Had this feeling back in'84 ------------------
Look, I like Bullard as much as all of you out there, but he's getting old and his back and knees have had issues. Despite the obvious height/race/positional comparisons (hey a tall white SF sharpshooter), Langhi would fill into his spot nicely when Bull hangs em up. Plus the new rules are going to face Langhi. I know a bunch of people have doubts about the kid, and I may be biased bc I am a Vandy alum, but I watched the kid play and he's for real. Rudy knows it and is going to let us all see it this year. However, the writing is on the wall for Walt. He eats up salary, he is tradeable because when he is hot he is HOT, he hits 3s, and we have a surplus of SFs. ------------------

Bull will be back. He'll sign for the vet minimum. He might not play much but he is tremendous in the locker room and has no interest playing anywhere else. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
