While fans were booing the Rocket's performance at TC, UH fans were going crazy at Hofeinz as their team was beating their second ranked opponent in a week and celebrating the resurgence of a once great basketball program. To us, the Rockets are a fun diversion, to Les, et al, the Rockets are that AND a business that competes for market share. They have had little competition, until now. As UH graduate I am excited about the upturn of the program, it has been a long dry spell. Given basketball in Houston is an entertainment business, the most entertaining team in the city is not at TC. All the more reason for the Rockets to do all they can to salvage the season. Their options are limited, but, if I were them, I would get busy, because marketshare may fly away to a new center of basketball excitement.
Cougars will play 27 more games over the next 4 months Rockets will play more than twice as much: 57 over the next 4 months. Then the Rockets get to play through April and then (hopefully) into the post season. Doesn't seem like UH will steal too much market share. The market is big enough for both.
I don't think it will affect the diehard fans, but the entertainment seekers will shift to the "hottest" venue. The Rocket ticket is more expensive, and, at present, not nearly as entertaining.
I would think that that's certainly true. How much of a price difference is there between Cougars tickets and Rockets tickets?
I don't have the exact numbers yet (I will soon, because I will be coming in to some games over the holidays), but the range is much greater for the Rockets. Are there any ten dollar tickets for the Rockets? I don't think so, but not positive. What is front row on the court, over a hundred, two hundred? The UH tickets are more in the 10-50 range, I would guess.
