Well the Lakers have lost 2 in a row, and both were blowouts. Looking at the Lakers remaining schedule: 14 Fri @ Minnesota 15 Sat @ Milwaukee 17 Mon @ L.A. Clippers 20 Thu @ Sacramento 21 Fri Boston 23 Sun @ San Antonio 25 Tue @ Atlanta 26 Wed @ Houston 28 Fri Washington 30 Sun @ Seattle 31 Mon Memphis Apr 3 Thu @ Dallas 4 Fri @ Memphis 6 Sun Phoenix 8 Tue Dallas 10 Thu Sacramento 13 Sun @ Portland 15 Tue Denver They play mostly Western Conference Playoff teams and 10 of the 17 games are on the road. What if the Lakers are in a slump and lose against the "good" western conference teams and MISS THE PLAYOFFS? Utah doesn't look to be slipping anymore, and if the Rockets keep playing well and Phoenix play well, I think the Lakers stand a good chance of watching the postseason from home! WOULDN'T THAT BE AWESOME? HAHHAHAHA
Dallas is feeling the heat now. Best record in the league just to face the defending champion in the first round? A huge mental blow.
Am I the only one that thinks the ROx will make at least 7th and push the Lakers out of the hunt? Phoenix has had its bad stretch of games so they won't play badly again anytime soon. Now its the Lakers' turn to have a slump and thats gonna cost them in the postseason. I think this game gave the Rockets new purpose. After this sentimental victory, I think they can accomplish anything if they don't give up.
A HECK of a game by the Rockets tonight! Their win was mixed with timely threes and with stupid substitutions combined with what I thought was the refs cheating in favor of the Rockets. You take the wins however you get them. The rockets shouldn't have been playin' them this close to begin with. With the win tonight, we're officially the eighth seed. It's interesting that you point out the situation reguarding the Lakers. What's they're lead over us?? They do have a pretty tough schedule with the Minnesota, Milwaukee, Sacramento, and San Antonio's in the span of their next 10 games. We do have the tie-breaker over them. If we hop over them to the #7 seed, we could get a more worthy first round experience by playin' Sacramento.
I don't think it's gonna happen. Now, just fend off the Suns of Biotches, that all I am asking for. Whether thre is icing on the cake, well, I don't mind to get fatter in that way. Mark my words, we will go 11-8 for the final 19 games. That makes us 44-38 at the end of the season. That's NOT enough to beat the Lakers for positions.
Nah... I don't think there's a chance in hell the Lakers are going to be out of the playoffs. Sure, it'd be sweet, but let's not go nuts here. Both Kobe and Shaq are the kind of player that can do whatever they want when properly motivated. I see them more as a contender for the title than being in danger of falling out of contention all together.
When I read the thread topic, I laughed and thought, like everyone else, Lakers are in. Then, I looked at the schedule...and that is brutal. I went to the game tonight, AND STAYED, and I watched the replay at midnight. If you played close attention, the difference in body language was amazing. You could see that the Rockets had a poise to them that great teams have. Watching the team huddles on the late night replay reminded me of the old '94 Championship huddles. My point is this...This game will go down as the "tone-setter" for the rest of the season. This win has to click something in their minds that this team is destined for the playoffs. With Phoenix losing 4 of 7, and coming in Sunday, and the Lakers facing that schedule...that thread topic isn't so funny anymore. It's realistic.
The perfect situation would be: 7. Huston 8. Golden State 9. Los Angeles (lose the tie breaker to Warriors in the season's last game @GS) 10. Phoenix
Kobe won't let it happen. They're letting Shaq carry the load now, but if Kobe sees the team in danger of dropping a spot, he'll take matters into his own hands. He just won't let it happen. He will break any and all records. He's just that type of player.
TrickDaddy, you need to get your head out of the clouds. The Lakers will somehow squeeze into the playoffs. It's going to be b/t the Rockets and Suns for #8. And so far, one team is going toward the 8th spot and the other is going downhill.
Conpiracy theory: The NBA will never allow the Lakers to miss the playoffs. The refs will make sure they make it.
Uh, that Golden Gated squad has a frightening air about them, tho they are one year wonders (I say). For now, it is a three horse race to see who are the thoroughbreds and who are the horses fannies.
if its ture, that will be the most awesome thing i've ever seen.... hiyahiyahiyahiya~~~~~~~~~~~~~ btw, u r funny guy.
