I am Chinese and I became a rockets fan simply because of yao ming. After watching tonight's game against suns. Honestly, i would say that rockets play street basketball. No set play, no passing, ... . I think yao ming, Emanuel Ginobili and other foreign players feel very uncomfortable about the play style of US basketbal. I would say damn wrong mentality of Individual paly over team play . Maybe it is a result of Commerilization? Steve is nothing better than some chinese guards expect of his atheletism in my mind. (Do not bask me for saying that, he he)

One more thing about yao's falling over on Marbury's cross over. Think about this: how come Yao as a center came to guard a guard? where is the rockets guy who supposed to guard him? Ugly defence.

I agree. This is a problem with the modern day NBA. Flash.
And this is a problem with our team too. But, it's getting better.
Sooner or later Francis and his team will realize that playing the "street style"
    wont bring a championship.

As far as the Yao/Marbury cross-over...

Just like Payton did it, Marbury did it. It was a set play/swtich off. The Suns
    planed it that way.

It was used to create a mismatch. They will continue to do that unless
we communicate on defense to follow your man (instant double teams
    work to).

One atheletism by itself is a huge factor. It's like saying Jordan is like any other guard except he can jump, Shaq is nothing better any other center except he is big, Yao Ming isn't better than anyother player because he is 7'5. Frances is 10X better than any chinese guard right now if u watched the world games. How do u think china would've done at the world games if Francis was our point guard (Im Chinese American btw). And even intelligence wise steve is slightly better, he is actually a good passer (don't just look at this game and say he isn't), Chinese guards jack up as much shot during the world games as anyone if not more. Francis is a great guard and he really is still pretty young.

Chinese guards hopefully will get better. I remember watching the olympics 6 years ago, the chinese guards couldn't even inbound the ball against the US in the first 3 plays of the game. Couldn't inbound, nothing to do with athleticism, they just weren't used to ppl pressuring a inbound pass that early in game. They turned it over 3 times trying to inbound. I was at the edge of tears at 3 a.m. Shanghai time. I would like to say the level of talent of the guards came a long long way since then but it still has a long long road to go.

Why was Yao guarding Steph? I don't know, I missed what happened before he fell over. My guess is it was either part of the zone or they just had a problem switching off. That was only one play by the way.

Ugly defense, wasn't the score of this game 88 to 87. That's ugly offense.

Yes, that's right. It was a switch off by the Suns.

The freakin Rockets don't know how to FIGHT through freaking picks. I was disgusted with their defense. Phoenix kept on setting picks, taking advantages of mismatches, and freakin Rudy doesnt tell the guys to fight through em. Really dissapointing.

The Rockets have always had problems guarding pick and rolls and etc. too, I think its just poor coaching.

you obviously don't know too much about basketball

your only good point was about the 1-on-1 play in the NBA.

first of all, I'm chinese too, so don't think I'm trying to offend you, but the guards on the Chinese team SUCKED. They were the reason why China did so crappy in the Worlds. They couldn't handle the ball pressure and couldn't feed Yao in the post. They are very good shooters, but don't have the quickness or handles to get past their defender to make a play - all I saw was "swing the ball around for a 3" over and over again, even though both of their best players (Yao and Mengke) could beat their man down low.

Yao fell over because he lost his balance, plain and simple. He shouldn't be trying to guard Marbury out there, he should have went through the screen on the pick and roll or just challenged the shot. In China I'm sure there aren't any guards even close to being as quick as Marbury so he might be conditioned to switch on the screen and roll, but that's something he will have to learn in time. And the whole situation could have been avoided if the Rockets just played a zone and kept Yao down low.

Marbury has to be the quickest player in the NBA. He can make a whole lot of people fall. I think he is just with the wrong team. He needs to be somewhere with a run and gun offense. If he played for Dallas that would be scary.

    Yes. For Dallas.

They are much better off with Nash.

Actually, that is their defensive scheme. The Rockets have admitted that they guard the pick and roll much differently than other teams. For the most part, they either switch or have the big man show long enough to allow the guard to recover rather than have the guards fight over the top.

the only reason to even have that kind of defensive scheme is not to tire out the back court. While I admit with Steve and Mobes being as much time as they have and be that important to our offense, we don't want them too tired but come on, even Jason Williams of the Grizz is starting to play defense now with Hubbie Brown. I say u are paid 80 mill to play ball, suck it and sac your body, u r gonna retire with over 100 mil in the bank at 35-6, u better have some aching bones.
