Although this has been discussed in several forms in several threads, a discussion of how Rockets players can be mixed and matched may be interesting. I noticed that, of the known roster players, we have countless mixes and matches based on 12 players. PG -- Francis, James, Brooks SG -- Wells, Snyder, Francis, James, McGrady, Brooks SF -- McGrady, Battier, Snyder, Wells, Scola PF -- Scola, Butler, Hayes, Battier, McGrady C -- Yao, Mutombo, Butler, Scola I'm not counting Rafer, Luther and JL3 because I expect them to be gone. Reed, Novak and Landry are on the bubble. Harris is Drano -- as in down the drain.
i think we should keep head. head and snyder are opposites except for the fact their both young and cheap. with those 2 switchout on each game depending on teams we play, we can truly use their strenghts in goods. in fast games. head/snyder/wells/ is going to be our main sg, and sometime one of them wont' play at all, sometime they will play equally, sometime one of them will play alot. moving tracy back and forth to the pf position isn't bad either, it'll give battier some more time in the sf position.
without head, the 3pt threat goes down the drain fast. and i still dont feel confident with MJ/francis/brooks being the primary pgs. especially when MJ and francis play much more like SGs
i think adelman will run and gun with a few different lineups. this should be exciting! i can see more minutes for the bench players and less minutes for yao and mcgrady. this will only keep them MORE effective in their time on the court. being able to maintain overall performance while yao and mcgrady are on the bench will prove to be the biggest win for the rockets this year. i think that's where we will see the biggest difference. with last year's team, we all just prayed that we wouldn't give up the lead...
I still have doubts about how we're gonna guard fast and strong centers and PFs i.e. Brand, Boozer, Amare. I doubt Scola will be able to defend them effectively. We should get haslem, and if we dont, we def. need to resign Chuck hayes.. How is that going btw?
If I were the coach, I would want to build a stable core for the team. Wells and Francis have short contracts and are uncertain how they will perform. There is a good chance one or both of them will be a one-year mercenary. I wouldn't put this kind of players in my core. They are best used as "depth" pieces off the bench. My core would be: James, McGrady, Battier, Scola, Yao. If Brooks is a real deal, he will replace James eventually. Alston is expected to be moved. But Morey is not in a desperate mode. (It is always good if you are not desperate when you are making deals.) So there is a chance that he might stay by the beginning of the season. If that is the case, it is very likely that either James or Francis will be used at the 2 spot. That shifts the glut from the 1 to the 2. They'll have to make decision whether they want to keep Head or Snyder. It just doesn't make any sense to keep 4 PGs and 4 SGs on the roster, all of them can play.
There wont we b any moves until after camp. The battles for Luther, Alston, Snyder, and Harris are going to be tremendous. I dont think Head stays because he can hit the 3 and suck on D, which is what he does sucks tremendously on D.
