A Texan fan asked me this question which I wanted to share with the Rockets nation.

I'm not. I was hoping we draft Vince Young at the age of one.

    ^+1

I also wish we had drafted Vince Young instead.

By the way, if you put the question as "Would you rather draft Hakeem or Jordan?" or "Who is greater, Hakeem or Jordan?" I think you would get different answers.

    true,
but the question is about drafting.
interesting note since you brought up Vince Young:
The Rockets drafted Ralph a day after VY was born!

(May 19, 1983) The Rockets offered the Indiana Pacers a package of players, draft picks and a million dollars in cash for the No. 1 pick in the 1983 NBA Draft. The Pacers turned it down, preferring to take their chances on a flip of the coin. They lost. The Rockets called heads on the advice of owner Charlie Thomas' daughter Tracy and won, immediately letting it be known they wanted University of Virginia center Ralph Sampson.

Vincent Paul Young, Jr., commonly Vince Young or "VY", born May 18, 1983 in Houston, Texas,

Different player, same results. We draft MJ, we still get 2 championships. The role players matter basically. It's more of if you prefer having a historical SG or a historical C. Either way, I prefer Hakeem the Dreeeeeeam.

Maybe we wouldn't of gotten 2 championships from Jordan because of a different supporting cast?

********* The only mistake the Rockets made was having two Centers.
They should have traded Ralph inorder to get the second pick and selected Jordan. Then with their third selection they should have selected Clyde Drexler insted of Rodney Mc Cray. Then they would have won 10 championships in a row!!!! :p

Despite the fact that MJ was so dominant for so long, anyone who votes for him over Hakeem must have been too young to watch the 93-95 seasons

Some would say the gap between elite big men and good big men is greater than elite wing players and good wing players.

I don't know if that is necessarily true but I believe Hakeem + 4 average players at their position would beat Jordan + 4 average players at their position.

Hakeem's effect on defense is greater. On offense, Jordan would have the edge although he would be relegated as a jumpshooter since we all know he's not getting anything inside. If Jordan is a jumpshooter, he doesn't crack the top 10 of his time.

I'm more upset on the fact that the Rockets didn't trade Sampson to Blazers (WHICH THEY OFFERED) for Drexler + #2 pick in that draft (ahem we could have drafted Jordan).

Dang: Drexler, Jordan, Dream in their prime, um can you say 10-12 championships EASY. (A Boston Celtics #2).

You can't just assume that Jordan instead of Dream would still equal the 6 titles he won with the Bulls.

Besides, we would've missed out on Clyde returning to Houston on Valentine's Day 1995 to team with Dream and lead the Rockets to their 2nd straight title. That's much more exciting than a pair of three-peats. :D

Lot of factors go into jordan's 6 titles. exampel, if we got him, he wouldnt have had a pippen to really play that vital second bannana role. who knows, jordan was an eastcoast kind of guy, he might have bolted to the eastcoasct 3 years later. there is so many equations to consider here. its naive to assume jordan here would have equated to 6 titles.

I should mention from the marketing and Financial stand point of view, the rockets would have made alot of more $$$$ WITH JORDANS. NOT SAYING THE DREAM WASNT A CROWD PLEASER, but jordan was something -else

it wouldve been great to have jordan. we'd be the franchise everyone would ever talk about in the 90s. we wouldve been on nbc every sunday....but hakeem was just as amazing to me. it was really fun watching him on a day to day basis. people on the national level dont realize how great hakeem was cuz they only saw him in playoff action.
