Here is the wording from Real GM:

    Debits:
1st round pick to Memphis. Can be Houston's pick or another teams' pick that is in the top-13. Houston's option. Due in '03. No protection.

Let's suppose the Rockets get lucky at draw the #1, #2 or #3 position. We don't have to give it up to Memphis IF we can "buy" another pick (say, #11, #12 or #13) + a bad contract from one of our fellow lottery brethren. It would be expensive (Cato, Taylor, Griffin, Mobley, etc. -- any player except SF and Ming might have to be sacrificed).

Are any or all of the top three (L.J., Darko or Carmelo) worth the pain of re-mixing the Rockets' team chemistry?

But does Memphis have to "sell" the top pick if it lands there?

Or does Houston automatically get the option of keeping it by trading a player and getting another draft pick?

Hmmmm. Clutch's story does bode ill to my scheme to thwart the Grizz from laying their paws on our pick.

True, there is a 99% chance the Rocks will have the 13th pick, which we will let Memphis have. I am only worried about the scenario where we win #1, #2 or #3 in the draft.

According to Real GM, the pick only has to be a lottery pick, not necessarily the Rockets' pick. That's why I was thinking in terms of a trade with Seattle, Golden State, etc. to get the #10, #11 or #12 pick to send to Memphis.

If Lebron were on the Rockets, he would end up just going 1-1 with everyone. He would catch the iso fever!

Man, next year is going to suck......

The pick that Memphis got from us will NOT be in the top 3. I'd be willing to bet everything I own on it...

Not only did I watch all the games but I also rooted for the Rockets.

While I am dismayed that the Rocks did not make the playoffs, sitting out the second season AGAIN will finally IMO make them realize they must pley as a team to win. The talent is there. Management doesn't really need to do anything but make the players mesh.

Drafting a tall, true point guard (with talent) is what the Rockets need so that Steve can move to the SG and Cat can be the Sixth Man.

The Rockets do not need anymore ROOKIES or young players on their squad. What we need are more VETERANS to mix it up with the younger players that we presently have. This should be our number one priority for the off season.

If it actually was a top 3 pick.....

    I'D DEFINITELY GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!

    Do anything to get it!

    Don't know any details...

But if we could get it back...

I would trade Moochie Norris, Tito Maddox, Juaquin Hawkins, Bostjan Nachbar, Terence Morris, Jason Collier, and uhh nobody else really.

But if we could actually get a top 3 pick..that would be AMAZING
