Can't watch the Rockets, watch this. Man, I'm watching Tom Morello inducting the Clash and I am reminded what an idiot Matt Jackson is. Did anybody else hear him question why they were getting inducted like they were some one hit wonder?
The Police are playing together for the first time in 18 yrs, and I'm padding my post count. Awesome.
Does anyone what the differences were between Joe Strummer and Elvis Costello? I know they were both in the movie Straight to Hell together. Was it something that happened there? I never knew there was any beef between those guys. I think they both are incredible.
are you even remotely serious??? and i missed this??? where in the world can i watch it now?? think they'll repeat the performance? the police and dmb are my favorite groups of all time.
VH1 will be airing the ceremony again tonight at 7est/6cnt. You can find some clips here though: http://www.vh1.com/shows/events/hall_of_fame/2003/ The Police performed Roxanne and Every Breath You Take.
man..that's awesome...thanks for the link!! my favorite all time song is "every little thing she does is magic." wish they had played that one...but i've seen sting perform it more than a few times...never got to see the Police in concert, but my brother-in-law did and said they were amazing. they broke up at their peak. i remember being a junior high kid at the time and being so sad the police broke up.
There was/is no beef. Elvis had (rightful) beef with the former bass player in the Attractions, one Bruce Thomas (a phenomenal player, btw). Thomas wrote some tell-all book in the late 80s (I think, someone correct me on this) that Elvis took offense to. What I don't get is how anybody can be embarrassed by anything after getting punked in a bar by Bonnie Bramlett. Anyway, Thomas wasn't with the band, Costello wasn't planning on having him attend/play at the RnR HoF stuff until Strummer passed. Ostensibly realizing how short life is, et cetera, Costello decided to let bygones be bass players; or something like that.
Thanks for clearing that up. I'm sorry there was a beef with anyone, but I'm really glad it wasn't with Joe Strummer. I'm glad that Elvis took a noble move of letting the hard feelings go.
True story: I believe it was 1983, and The Police are coming in concert. The tickets go on sale at the Astrrodome box office. A friend of mine and I get there the day before, and when darkness comes and the lines are starting to form, we find a way to sneak into the lot and get up close to the Dome. We find a place to crash and get some sleep. When we wake up, the gates had already been opened and the lines formed right beside us. If we had been awake, we could have been first, but ended up about 1000th or so in line. We still got good seats, and I still remember that show.
