Tell Me About Rochester, Ny What can you tell me about Rochester, Ny? I'm applying to a couple of jobs there, but I've never really been there...I've heard quite a few great things about the city, and it's relatively near me, so before I move (If I get one of the jobs), of course I'll go up there and see what the city has to offer. My girlfriend and I are looking to move to a larger city than what we live in now (my town is about 30,000), and I want to really avoid Buffalo. Rochester is a place that I've heard a lot of nice things about, and they just happen to have some job openings in both of our fields....

I have a cousin that lives there, and I lived there when I was 1-3. Can't tell you much, as that was a long time ago. We did have snow up to our roof once, family pictures verify this. We moved to the south for the next winter. Rochester was a Kodak town. For a long time, that was pretty much the major employer. Sorry, really no help, but you did bring up a place I lived, so I felt compelled to post.
My mom's family are from there - all but one since scattered. What I can tell you: It's a good small non-urban city of neighborhoods. Plenty of snow to shovel in the winter. Some decent retail at the Irondequoit Mall (note - this may be seriously outdated). It's a town that has definitely been dying off the past 2 decades (like Buffalo) Blue Cross Arena actually draws decent concert acts (so does Darien Lake). Dinosaur BBQ is absolutely top notch. Nick Tahoe trash plates are......memorable. White Hots!!!
yep, I have family there and i have been there about 5-6 times and it is just a dreadful city. Extremely boring and downtown is just filled with empty factories and buildings. Pretty depressing place.
Our company's factory is in lovely Rocha-cha... I have to agree that Dinosaur BBQ is the real deal... and thats coming from a Texas guy. I would buy sets of the sauce and ship home. Nick Tahoe's garbage plate lead to me nearly ****ting my pants 10 minutes after I ate it.... pure magic... Now I live in Toronto (moved from Houston) and visit Rochester about every other month. Pittsford is a nice suburb of the town.
