Looks like it might finally happen. Nic Mathieu is a commercial director but this commercial pretty much seal the deal of approval.

The CGI was pretty terrible in parts.

Eh, of course. It's a low budget CGI for ZENITH tv. But the whole concept of spaceship fighting visualization is been done pretty well. We'll find out how he does with his first movie.

    Whoa.... childhood freakout 3, 2, 1...

My favorite cartoon of all time -- so dark and serious for a kid's show.

    Pure awesome.

robotech is a soap opera with giant robots.

that video looks like just another motion sickness inducing cgi/3d-fest.

the problem with commercial directors is that they all overuse slo-mo for "artistic" effect, from american history x to tron 2.0. besides not looking that great in the first place, they do this so much it's become generic and boring.

Robotech is something I think would work very well on the big screen if done properly, the Macross section in particular.

I really hope they don't screw this up because Robotech is my favorite childhood show. I've watched it as an adult and it still holds up very well.

Strangely it makes me think less of the product they are trying to sell when they can't get a decent CGI artist when they're now a dime a dozen since 13 year old kids torrent Maya and 3D Studio Max.

It could be epic if done right. I had a bit of hope when I read that Leonardo DiCaprio or Tobey Maguire (can't remember whom) bought the options to Robotech. Looks like it was Maguire since he's producing? In any case, I don't think they'd pass some Micheal Bay-type bullsh** through.

I always wondered how a Robotech movie would handle Minmei. I shudder to think they actually cast an actual pop star just to make crap music and reel in teen girls.

Yeah it was Maguire that got the rights, think he still has them.

I wouldn't mind if Minmei's character was slightly altered.

Yeah, I hope they would make the movie/ characters a bit more serious to appeal to the audience who is 20 or so years older.
