David Robinson is wondering what the Spurs are planning to do with him.

The agent for San Antonio center David Robinson spoke briefly Tuesday with Spurs general manager/coach Gregg Popovich, but the two did not get into specifics over a new contract for the 12-year veteran.

The lack of progress in negotiations has Robinson puzzled.

"This is the first time in my career that I thought I wouldn't finish as a San Antonio Spur," Robinson told the San Antonio Express-News.

The Spurs are interested in free agent Chris Webber, which would cut into what they could pay Robinson.

The Spurs sent a videotape about the franchise and San Antonio to Webber over the weekend, according to the Express-News. However, when Popovich talked to Robinson's agent on Tuesday, he attempted to downplay the team's interest in Webber.

"David is our top priority and will continue to be," Popovich said. "We're going to do the best job that we can to put together a team that makes sense on the court and off. We want to make the city proud off the court, and we want to be competitive on it."

Robinson has said in the past that he was willing to be flexible with his salary request, he said Tuesday the Spurs have taken the attitude of, as he put it: "He's a nice guy, so we can pay him less."

"The money thing isn't first and foremost," Robinson told the Express-News. "It's about respect. If I come back and I'm making $2 million, that's how I will be treated. That's what your value is. To go to another team — for a middle-class exception — well, teams understand that. But for your own team (to cut your pay), that makes a strong statement about what they think of you."

how can someone be your TOP PRIORITY when you haven't ended tended him a contract???

this is why i don't respect the spurs organization.

btw, derek anderson has stated that he wants the MAX now. someone's leaving san antonio, either david or DA. and if they get webber, both dave and DA are gone. (another message from Captain Obvious [IMG] )

personally, i see the spurs getting none of the above. MAYBE they'll only resign dave, if he'll play the c webb waiting game. but no one knows "when" c webb will make his decision. david already gotten an offer from the knicks and who knows who else. he may get impatient - coupled with his already hurt feelings - and leave before c webb makes his decision. should he do that, the spurs would be f8cked like a tied billygoat.
