FYI to any fellow geeks out there. For those of you who are Robert Jordan fans (or at least used to be until the Wheel of Time became the Wheel of Eternal sequals) Robert Jordan has been dealing with a pretty serious illness.

His final book to the Wheel of Time story arc is being hastily written, but he's fighting for his life. I think there were supposed to be 2-3 more books, but it looks like he's finishing up the arc in the next book because of his illness and a chance that he might not live long enough to finish any more books.

He does, however state that if he does beat the illness, he will write more Wheel of Time novels, they just will be prequels or stand-alones.

Here is his blog with more details:

Thanks for the info. Sucks for Robert Jordan. Though, it is kind of nice to see something actually forcing him to move the story along a bit...

That sucks to hear. I've read about 5 books from that series and like his work. Hope he gets better.

Yeah, it's too bad. I feel sorry for the guy on a personal level for his medical troubles. But in terms of the books themselves, going from where this series started, I can't imagine that these books will be looked upon as anything less than a disappointment. I mean it starts out as gangbusters in the first 5-6 books, then spends another 5-6 books puttering around and stretching out storylines, only to have one colossal tome at the end to try and finish off an incredibly unwieldy story.

And that's if he can even get this finished in time. Having him suddenly pass away without finishing the books would pretty much hit the limit where disappointment is concerned.

The Wheel of Time series was going to end after the next book anyway, he always had planned on 12 books in the original series (not counting prequels, etc.). It's too bad to hear about his illness though, I hope he pulls through.

Man that sucks. The books have dragged on a bit as of late - but still one of the most well developed and incredible storylines.

    Hope he pulls through.
