Dibble Out At ESPN December 24, 2004 John Howell Rob Dibble, a two-time major league All-Star relief pitcher from Southington, is out as a baseball analyst and radio announcer at ESPN. "ESPN has decided not to renew Rob Dibble's contract," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Thursday. Dibble was co-host of "The Dan Patrick Show" on ESPN Radio and locally on WPOP 1410. He also worked ESPN's "Baseball Tonight," which has featured a revolving cast of analysts in recent years, including Steve Phillips, John Kruk and former Mets manager and Stamford native Bobby Valentine. "Recent additions have strengthened our MLB analysts team, and radio programming is constantly evolving," Krulewitz said. "We feel that `The Dan Patrick Show' is best hosted solely by Dan." Dibble, 40, won a World Series ring with Cincinnati in 1990, when he was co-MVP of the NLCS. He combined with Randy Myers and Norm Charlton to form the "Nasty Boys" bullpen, a moniker he carried into broadcasting, including a year in the Fox studio in 1997.
Unlike many here, I really liked Dibble and what he brought to the Dan Patrick Show. That radio show will never be the same...he was to Dan Patrick as Artie Lange is to Howard Stern.
haha, hosted solely by Dan. But Dan never seems to host the show. Is it just me, or is Dan NEVER THERE. When the show was on 610, it seemed that about half the time I'd listen, Dan took the day off. Then I turned it on today during a 610 commercial, and surprise, surprise, Dan is not there again. Does this guy get like six months of vacation?
I usually liked listenign to Dibble. ESPN is pitiful they keep so called "Insider" guys like Chad Ford and Buster Olney, who usually get nothing right and get rid of entertaining guys who actually have pretty good views. In a related issue, I know a lot of people here hate Dan Patrick, but I heard a commercial the other day where he was talking about a Christmas card he got from a listner named Melissa. The card said "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, from the Lima's". Then he says it was nice having a picture of your son and husband on the card, but next year you need to just have a picture of you(Melissa) on the card. I thought that was pretty funny considering the attitudes towards Ms. Lima, on this board
I am surprised, cuz I thought he would last on, at least in radio form, just by being DP's buddy. He is such a pathetic yes man, and you can tell the change in demeanor whenever DP isn't there. All of a sudden he isn't agreeing with everything coming out of the hosts mouth and he isn't over-laughing at every opportunity(this is what mainly got on my nerves). Besides that, the dude is just a moron.
Rob Dibble - "I know more because I played baseball" I thought he added nothing to that show. All Patrick and he did was laugh at each other's stupid jokes all day. That show is a disaster.
Dibble had the unexplainable ability to take the worst show on radio and make it just a little worse. I can't believe they'd let go of that kind of talent. Otoh, those Reds were a fun team to watch. Whenever I see a good bullpen (like Lidge-Dotel-Wagner of the 03 Stros) I always compare them to the Nasty Boys. 3 elite level closers on 1 squad.
