Roadrunner has a new service for $19.95/month, but its only 768k DL vs the regular RR which is approx 4 megs. Im not interested in downgrading my service, but this is an interesting alternative for people who don't want to pay $50/month for broadband internet.

They offered me this on my way out!

I had all 3 services through Time Warner. Had "digital" cable which was just barely digital. Roadrunner. And phone service. After the promotional period, my bill was about $170/month. Yeah, no thanks.

Switched to SBC for all 3, with Dish for TV. Saving about $60/month for the same stuff, except more channels through Dish, and getting DSL instead of Roadrunner, which is the same to me.

Bye, bye Time Warner. I ain't ever going back.

I have both cable and dsl (pro package?) lines at my home and cable is by far much better.

Dsl is good for the casual gamer, web surfer etc.
Cable is for people who constantly download stuff and want lower ping times on FPS etc.

Hope this isn't thread jacking but SBC/AT&T is offering regular DSL (up to 1.5 Mbps) for $12.99/mo and DSL Pro for $19.99/mo (up to 3MBps). If you switch over from cablemodem service, then you also get 3 months free. Note this is only for new customers who sign up online. My current contract expired this month so I went with the DSL Pro for $19.99.

I got jipped =p Im paying $24.99/month for the pro package, I think I only have 6 months left on the contract. What I initially planned on doing was cancel my two cable lines and use a wireless router for all the pc's at home. After I found out how cruddy DSL was, I opt to keep my cable line hence why I have one cable and one dsl. After the DSL contract expires Im going to just keep the cable and hook it up to my seldomly used wireless router and use that for all the pc's.

What's the issue w/ Roadrunner and connectivity issues during busy times?

TWC is offering digital cable, digital phone, and roadrunner for $99/month now. I think it goes up to $113/month in 3 months.

My parents will save about $40-60 month after getting rid of SBC phone service. And RoadRunner is fast.

I like the idea of Roadrunner Lite.

The $99 promotion is what I did. Three rooms of cable. digital phone. roadrunner. My promotion lasted 6 months.

Then it jumped to $170/month. I got out. It's the price after the promotion period that matters.

That is one hell of an increase. I'll have to warn my parents of that. They were told $113 by the sales rep.

At my old apartment I was able to buy just internet access for $40/month, without having to buy cable or land-line phone service (I used a cell phone). I wish that was more commonly available.

i'd hate to give up my RR b/c DSL sucks balls compared to it.

I've had cable for probably at least 6 years now and never ONCE noticed a connectivity issue.

That being said, my parents in Detroit who use Comcast do have problems between 7pm-10pm.

SBC sent me something in the mail...I responded to that.

I honestly can't tell the difference between RR and DSL.

Damn really? You're lucky. I had DSL at two different locations (I moved and was stuck in their year long contract.) It was painfully slow at times. Maybe you're close to the box.

DSL Pro was $17.99 for me, and it goes up to $34.95 after a year. I signed up by phone and still got the 3 months free, since I mentioned that I was switching over.

Roadrunner was crap. It worked OK for about 3 years, and then the connection would randomly drop for about an hour every day for the past 3 months.

surrender - You're right! DSL Pro is actually $17.99/mo now which I have. Thanks for the correction. As for RR vs SBC/ATT DSL, my brother who lives 5 houses down from me has RR and I can noticeably tell that his is download speeds are faster than mine. But he has experienced more disconnects than I have. I'm not saying one is better than the other but I'll stick with a cheaper rate for now until FiOS or some other fiberoptic broadband makes it to Houston.

i have roadrunner. i don't think i download enough stuff to justify having it over dsl but judging from a couple of friends who have sbc, it's a whole lot faster.

this was my whole thing. i just don't download a ton of stuff. if i did, it would make paying for roadrunner acceptable.

about two weeks or so back, i called Time Warner and asked them if they would offer it to me at some reduced price if they slowed down my speed...the guy i was talking to had no idea what i was talking about. and then, they make this announcement. :) actually, i'm glad they didn't. the picture quality with my Dish is so exceedingly better than it was with Time Warner "digital" cable, it's amazing.

I love the speed that I get with cable, not to mention that I have a hacked modem that I used for my real downloads on a different computer. I do pay the premium price for it, $44 or whatever, and I pay $20 for 'basic' cable, although they can't filter it correctly and I end up getting the 'extended basic' 1-75 channel lineup.

I do think that this $13 SBC deal will really hurt Roadrunner's subscriber range, and I'm glad for it. $44 is way, way too much for what most people get out of it. And the 'RR Lite' at $20 is still too much. My sincere hope is that the competition drives the price of cable modems down. This RR lite is a step in the right direction, but they have a way to go.
