In case we need to evac again, I wonder if you can tell where you or someone you know went, when you left and how long it took? Thanks.
Buy a good map and stay off of the major highways. I ended up in Weatherford, just west of Fortworth. The only time I got close to 45 was at Rayford Rd and that was just to go under it so I could take the back streets to Needham Rd. Then I took 1314 to 105 to 75 to 19 to Trinity.... I went the speed limit all the way. There was a small traffic jam at the only light in Elkhart, about 10 to 15 minute wait.
I went to my kitchen, made a vodka and cranberry, and started drinking and snapping off. I stayed there for 18 hours.
I think you and I have different definitions of "snapping off". My definition includes a utensil you would find at a local "smoking accessories" store.
From Baytown on Hwy 146 to Ft. Worth it took us about 36 hours after a 12 hour stay in Huntsville. Huntsville was hell, no place to get gas, food, or a place to get a break from the heat. The kept moving people around town promising gas would be there....there wasnt. Finally just decided to just to go up I45 until we ran out of gas, luckily we got gas in Fairfield after being well below the E mark. I still cant beleive that they had us evacuate in one freaking lane!!!
Left Houston at 2am Friday morning. Arrived in Austin via I10/71 at 8am. Went to ACL and came back Monday afternoon with very little traffic.
I-10 to 36...36 to 77...77 in Waco to 35 North to Dallas. took me 13 hours to get there on Wed night/Thurs morning. took me 8 hours to get home. but that was stopping frequently with a 1 year old and a 5 year old.
Left at Midnight Thursday morning from Beltway 8/Westheimer. Westpark to 1093 to 90A to 77 to I35 to Wellington, KS. 12 hours. Normally a 9.5 hour trip or so. On the way back, I made it in normal time.
E.S.L. guy here. I didn't even notice you wrote "snapping off". Learn something new everyday, I always say.
Left out of League City at 12:30am Thursday morning, arrived in Huntsville after 7pm the next evening. It was darn near 20 hours, and I didn't get off the road one time. Pulled my enclosed trailer with all my valuables, including 2 motorcycles, and had 1/4 tank of gas left when I got there. I-45 was my route, using the HOV for a bit (no help there), then I hit 75 at Conroe. I had no idea that traffic was going to be that bad, and I've got a new definition of road rage.
Left Magnolia at 8 PM Wed evening and got to Round Rock/Austin at 10:30 1488 to FM 362 to FM 105 to Navasota HWY 6 N to Hearne W on 79 into Round Rock
Indeed. We had originally decided to leave for Dallas on Thursday morning, but were packed up and ready to go on Wednesday afternoon so we left then. Took 359 through Brookshire, hit Hwy 6 then Hwy 90 to I-45. I didn't have to slow down until I hit rush hour traffic in Dallas. While watching the news on Thursday, I was extremely relieved that we had left the day before!
