Was just reading about this. Kind of shook me up. I did my college intership as a football coach at his high school back in the day when Mallett was playing there. Was always a cool guy. Still has one of the strongest arms I've ever seen as a QB. Heard he ended up becoming the Head Football Coach at a high school after his NFL playing days.

    RIP, Ryan.

Back when I used to work in sports, we did a live broadcast of the Texas High vs. Highland Park playoff game with Mallett and Matt Stafford. It was the premier QB matchup at that time and a heck of a game. The guy was an amazing HS QB.

Such a sad loss. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that he was the guy that died after jumping in the water to save someone else from a rip tide.

Unfortunately waist deep is more than enough to pull you out in a rip tide.

I actually was happy when the Texans got him and it took me a long time to accept he just wasn't pro material. I watched a game early in his Arkansas days and was just impressed with his natural ability.

If there is one...then pay attention to the warnings, always pay attention to beach warnings.

Nobody should be afraid of water, though.
