Tonight, at 10:32 pm MST, my PS2 died. It was a sudden death. All of a sudden it said, "can not read disc". So I tried another disc, no luck. So the drive opened, and I took an air pressure can and sprayed in there. Turned the PS2 off, started it up again, and there was no power at all. Anyone else had this problem? Guess I'm off to Wal Mart to get a new one. I guess I'll get the network adapter with it.
Happened to me a couple of months ago. Happened to a friend of mine a year ago. PS2 has great games but damn thing always dies on me. I just said forget it and bought an XBOX.
dude, PS2 stands for Piece of ****.... 2. i've had 3 of 'em do the exact same thing you just mentioned. word of advice: don't try and fix it by sticking paper clips into the open slots. it only makes things worse. BTW, if you happened to get a warranty on it (like at Best Buy or something), you can send it off and they'll fix it for you............ in about 8-10 weeks!!! "Piece... of... monkey... ****!"
Vertical stands are good for me. Hey, would someone explain to me how to connect a network adapter with a wireless router? (I don't have a wirless router, yet. I plan to get one in January, but I was just curious to know if it's possible, and what I should get). I can't wait for NBA Live and then I'll get NCAA Football when it's cheaper. Ahhh, countless hours doing nothing.
Hmm...I've had mine since shortly after they came out and I haven't had no problems. I don't think my friends' ps2s have broken either. Guess we're just lucky. Sorry I couldn't help, though. It sucks that it died. I play mine a lot and probably couldn't talk my dad into paying to get another one.
Yep, same thing happened to mine. I heard that buying a system cleaner will fix the problem but haven't tried it yet.
I don't know if this helps, but I found a place with several FAQs on the PS2, two of which included the disc reading error. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/26308.html I don't know if they will help since the PS2 won't even turn on, but there may be something useful there. Sorry, didn't actually read them though, so I can't give a summary or something. Even if my PS2 died, I don't even think I'd consider getting an Xbox simply because of my taste in games. I don't think Xbox has any good RPGs, and the PS2 has plenty of them as well as just about everything else. Yeah, it lacks the punch the Xbox has but it has some pretty good games. Plus, I like checking out some PS1 games on it as well. JMO, though. Sorry to go a bit off-topic.
I can't stand XBox. Damn controllers are bigger than my head. WTF is with that? It's not like hte thing just died on me, it was 3 years old. I'm gonna go get a new one tomorrow iwth the network adapter I guess. I figure to fix this would be $120 through Sony, where the new one is $200. I have a cousin that LOVES fixing electronic devices, so I'll see if he wants to buy it and fix it up (I'm keeping the controller though dammit, those things are expensive!). Just got back from Wal Mart. 24 hours a day my ass. The one Wal Mart in a 30 minute radius from my house, and it closes at 9. What's with that? Guess I'll buy it from Target.
My PS2 works just fine, hasnt given me a lick of trouble. and I have looked at it side by side with my daughters XBox..and they difference isnt that much.. I have always had great luck with Sonys...my original Playstation (I got one of the first release of them) lasted till last year..after many thousands of hours of play..
i was the same way, but then i found out that you can buy smaller versions of the XBox controller. well worth it. after playing both systems extensively, i've determined that the XBox is a vastly superior system. although the PS2 has it beat on game selection, the XBox is improving that every day.
PS2 sucks, it's horrible. Gamecube is kiddy and stupid. XBOX is king! Everything about the XBOX is better, especially the fact it's the only console with Halo - the best game of all-time. The original XBOX controllers aren't that big, they're of good size. I do 8 player Halo links, and every person I've ever played with (round 16 people) only uses the regular XBOX controller and never complains about it's size.....The disconnecting wire is another thing though...
XBOX's game selection hasn't made it worth the money yet. Nugs, if you do get a new PS2 - keep in mind that the 'network bundle' currently out will be outdated soon. Sony is going to release a new version of the PS2 - the design will be the same, but it will have an updated DVD player, progessive scan compatible, come with a remote (with the sensor built in so it won't take a controller port) and have a more compact chipset inside, among other things. You might want to hold out for that. In any case, I know places like EB offer year warranties for another 15-20 bucks. Not bad when you can just bring the system in during that year and get it replaced if something happens.
Please explain!!! Yeah, I got my PS2 at Sam's when it came with like 2 games, 2 controllers, and a memory card. It was a good deal I suppose. But do explain about the new network bundle, because I could use one, and am not sure how to connect it, and blah blah blah, yeah.
PS2 are known to suddenly die out. It has something to do with the laser. I heard that if you stack the PS2 like a tower the laser would die out more quickly. Even knowing this I still got the PS2 cuz it has a better selection of game IMO. I got the 2 yr warranty from EB just in case it dies out on me .
Currently the PS2 has a bundle for 199 that includes the Network Adapter - which allows you to hook up to the net for online play. The Adapter is also sold seperate, for about 40 bucks. The Adapter just hooks into the back of the PS2 - then you connect your online connection (dialup, DSL, etc) into it. From there, what options are available depends on the game. But Sony will release a new PS2 pretty soon (I think within the next couple of months) that has updated hardware. I listed all I could remember here: Hope that helps.
If the network adaptor is anything like the one in the UK, you'll need a Wireless-Ethernet bridge. This is a small box that enables any device with an ethernet port (such as the PS2 with network adaptor) to connect to a wireless network. My model is a Linksys WET-11, for my 802.11b network. They also make the same product for the different types of wireless.
Lamest excuse ever. The Xbox has not had those "big" controllers in about a year - they now come with the Japanese S-Type controllers that perfectly fit girly-hands...
Xbox game selection is limited, but it seems like a lot of PC games can convert over easily like Knights of the Old Republic. So I think they have the advantage for now. Plus they have the online thing going on. That's where the market will be the biggest.
