Don't know how I missed this over the weekend.

He produced the bulk of SST's early classic catalog. Every Black Flag release up through "Slip It In", all of Husker Du's The Minutemen's and Meat Puppet's SST releases. Austin's Big Boy's "Lullabies Help the Brain Grow". A legend in the SO Cal punk scene in the '80's.

i didnt know him, but i have lots of friends who did and musician friends who recorded with him while he was living in austin. american punk rock would have been very different without him.

some funny recollections on my facebook feed the last few days. he sounded like he was not only a really nice guy, but a outside-the-box musical genius. his dad was a tuskeegee airman too.

one of my friends was recording with him in the early 90's and was going for a certain guitar sound that was kind of freaky-sounding, but in a toned-down way. spot said "so basically put on a clown wig, but dont leave the house". haha.
