Just saw this. Horseman, Pass By Last Picture Show Lonesome Dove All My Friends are Going to be Strangers So many great novels.
Terms of Endearment The rest of the Lonesome Dove series is good too. Looking over his bibliography, I also liked Anything For Billy, Cadillac Jack, Texasville & Duane's Depressed (sequels to Last Picture). The nonfiction stuff of his I've read is interesting too.
He’s the only non-founder/benefactor/univ president who Rice has named a college after. (We call dorms, colleges.)
Terrible, terrible news. One of my favorite writers and the author of the greatest western ever put on paper, in my opinion, Lonesome Dove. My daughter went to middle school with his grandson, Curtis, and used to hangout at his house in Travis Heights after school. The 3rd generation of a creative family. Damn, this is so depressing. We just lost one of the brightest lights in this country's literary world.
As I think about this, I think this is true for *all* buildings on Rice campus, making McMurtry only one being honored for his work alone.
Damn, man. He was one the the greats. Some of my favorites included Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo, Last Picture Show and Duane’s Depressed. RIP
