I could've sworn Malden died a while back. Dang. He was probably best known for "Streets of San Francisco" and those American Express commercials. His real name : Mladen George Sekulovich And he was born in... *gasp*... Gary, Indiana.

Man, 97 years. Plus his mom lived to 104 and his dad made it to 96. Strong genes in that family. It's a shame that he has somehow managed to outlive his fame. He was a pretty darn good actor, way back when. I saw him most often over the years in his role of Omar Bradley opposite George C. Scott in Patton. I also know him best from Patton, but when I told my (26 year old) wife and she responded with "Who?", I told her that he played Omar Bradley in Patton...and he was also in, umm, lots of other stuff. That she would surely recognize him if she saw him. After reading the articles about his passing, though, I'm not quite sure what all I've seen him in other than Patton. Most of his films were way before my time, but I know I've always enjoyed his work when I've seen it...
Regrettably, or maybe not, the only Malden role I remember was as the father in the troubling Jimmy Piersall biopic, "Fear Strikes Out." Formally requesting to remove and replace Ed McMahon from the dead celebrity triumvirate.
