It is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform you all that my Dell Optiplex GX110 has bit the dust. It was about 5 years old and sported a snappy P3-866 processor. Actually the HD crashed but I was able to save my email, bookmarks and misc documents before losing it completely. I'm sure the motherboard and other components are fine, I really just don't want to deal with it anymore. I had just installed a new DL DVD-RW on that sucker, but all is well because, I have just ordered a new Dell Dimension 3000 to replace it and I will be able to salvage the DVD-RW as well as the other internal HD for use on my new PC!

    :p

Sorry to hear about your loss.

More importantly, will you be able to save your old school Rockets sticker?

    RIP

It's always a sad day when a computer that has been with you for so long bites the dust.

    I don't think I will be able to salvage it... :( :( :(
I really hate losing that sticker probably more than the PC! :)

Yes, please email me through the board. But of course, I will be removing the DVD-RW, the internal HD's (both good and bad) and possibly a couple of PCI cards, once I open it up and figure what the heck I got in there.

    Rockhead,

I think the 3000 only has room for 1 hard drive unless you buy a special third party mount.

oh shizzle... I hope not... but if it does, then I'll have to make the other HD an external.

Good to see somebody else here has heard of the (International) Noise Conspiracy. Won't you forget about your PC when it's gone?

I really don't have a problem with Dell's. I use them at work, I have 3 at home (one is dead, RIP Optiplex), they seem to run just fine for me. [knock on wood]

I did shop the refurbs, but I don't get to use my EPP (Employee Purchase Plan) discount on refurbs and the one's I looked at were in the $600-$800 range... I paid about $450 (with tax, shipping, etc) for the one I got, new. Plus, I will install my own DVD-RW and hopefully install my second HD and the system will suit me fine as a second surfing machine.

I had considered getting a mac-mini but, all my software is PC based and I didn't want to shell out bigger bucks for the combo super drive...

As long as your doing your homework rH, it's all good. :)

I don't really have a problem with Dell. I just moved over to the "I'll build my own" camp a while back. I would probably be buying Dell if I didn't make that move. Of course, they did screw me around hard that one time when I tried to buy a new machine from them. Stuck me at the end of the queue and kept sticking me back there cause they couldn't build the machine they advertised due to a defective keyboard with USB ports. My opinion was they should have given me a different keyboard or option while still delivering on the machine on time. But, they were too busy cramming orders through their queue to take notice and put me in indefinite "la la" land instead. So, damned if I didn't just order the parts and build my own machine.

I would like to apologize to that poor, unsuspecting Dell salesperson who received a probably now infamous customer rant e-mail. Plus, he got chewed out on the phone. I just wanted my computer by the deadline they promised(in time for x-mas). Instead, they put me in their version of a black hole cause THEY SCREWED UP. That order queue they have is a BEAST. Queue-beast! You get in and sometimes you don't get out. LOL

It's all good. Your getting a new pickle, dude. I'm alright...hehe.

I wish you would have asked for advice before you bought it because you could have found deals for a 4700 with 19" lcd for around $500. Dell runs special deals all the time.

Yeah, too bad, huh? I checked all over for Dell deals, but didn't find this one... maybe next time. Thanks.
