NBATALK has a link to a Miami paper where ZO publicly calls for Rider ...and the intimation is that it's a done deal that he will be joining them.

They have nothing to lose...if he screws up, they can just cut him. On the other hand, the upside there is ridiculously good. They look awesome.

I still query there depth in the front court, but I am sure they can land a FA Veteran who just wants a ring. If so...wow.

    Hardaway / Carter
    Jones / Rider

    with Mason, Grant and Mourning.

Zo wants Heat to pick up Rider
    By OMAR KELLY
    Web-posted: 11:03 p.m. Aug. 18, 2000
While most of the NBA seemingly has turned its back on Isaiah Rider, at least one Heat player appears to be welcoming the enigmatic free-agent shooting guard -- with cautious -- but open arms.
Heat center and captain Alonzo Mourning gave Rider his vote of approval during an online chat at www.nba.com, the league's official Web site.
"I want to play with him. I think he'll help this team," Mourning said. "Once he gets around a good group of guys and he understands everyone is on the same page, I think he'd want to get on board and be a part of a winning team. I've heard him say it before -- he just wants to win."
Rider was leading the Hawks in scoring when he was released March 17 because of disciplinary problems, which included arriving late to practice.
Despite Rider's problems, Heat officials met with him early in the free-agent period, and Riley labeled him as a "possible option."
An Eastern Conference executive who talked with Rider's agent, Arn Tellum, said earlier he believes Rider is planning to sign with the Heat.
The Heat still holds its $2.25 million salary-cap exception and could possibly use it -- or a portion of it -- to sign him.
