So quick to overrate any player they can think of just to fulfill the need for a trade to go down. Seriously!

I understand that during this time there are going to be a millions posts that all sound the same and a great majority of the fans here will be quick to believe that someone is better than they really are. I know we all want change. We want a team we can root for, but just take a breath and step back for a minute and look at the situation we are in and things become a bit more clear.

First of all in my opinion two guys that have been beaten down my throat this trade period have been Mayo and Thabeet. Come on guys. One is practically a bust but everyone believes he is going to come out of no where and turn into Hakeem's twin and rule the paint. He's not! How many guys can you think of that after this much time get traded and become a superstar. I know you want to use the excuse that he doesn't get playing time but at the end of the day he hasn't really shown much period. At least someone like Terrance Williams has shown flashes of something and we all know where he is today. So you think Adleman just says Thabeet you're the man lets go? Next up is Mister Mayo, this guy does not make us any better at the end of the day so why do the deal? It's a lateral trade and unless we are getting some assets to go along with it realize he is not going to be some superstar all of a sudden. He is a good talent and a borderline second or third guy on a team in my opinion.

Now in my opinion looking at the state of the team is this. We need a superstar. As much as I hate to say it the Yao era is coming to an end. We need a superstar that we are going to build our team around. No point in picking up a ton of lateral trades that really don't make us better if we don't have our eyes on a superstar to pair them with. At this point the only logical thing to do is get as many picks and assets as we can, clear some cap space which we will after this year, and rebuild.

There are no superstar blockbusters that are going to happen before the deadline tomorrow so we shouldn't get our hopes up. I'm sure the deals that come through by tomorrow are just going to be ho hum get rid of this guy for some picks and a throw in, etc etc...nothing we can hang our hats on. Lets realize that and just move on with it. I personally don't think there is anything left out there that will automatically make us a shoe in for the playoffs so why waste our time or get ripped off just to move people.

I know I sound like I'm ranting but I have sat here and read thread after thread of people trying to make themselves feel better or dying for a trade when the person they want isn't all that much better than what we have now. I got my flame suit on lets have at it.

Can we trade Adelman? :) I'd trade him for JVG in a heartbeat.

I have a feeling he is going to retire to be honest with you. The comments he made earlier about it, the way he seems to be disconnected with the deals Morey has made.

I think it's time for a change in that department as well. But that's a whole different can of worms.

Mayo isn't bad but Thabeet is just straight trash.

I guess we're all kind of caught up on guys who are high draft picks and had a lot of potential. I mean I don't really like Mayo either, but it's hard to believe he was traded for Kevin Love. We have lots of talented players, but most of them are tail end lottery (such as Big Dick, Hill, TWill) rather than high lottery. I think people are excited about someone who was once labeled to have a lot of potential. But I agree, Mayo and Thabeet will likely both never be dominant at their position.

I agree that Mayo is not that bad, but he is not anything better than Lee or Martin at this point. He doesn't bring anything to the table that the other two that we have don't.

My point is more that they have glorified Mayo just like he was hyped in high school and college and it's not really worth it. The only way I take Mayo is if he comes with some draft picks or something. At that point it makes it worth it.

I'm not saying to not get him, I'm just saying that straight up won't be anything more than what we have now and they have turned this guy into a superstar when he clearly is not.

Completely agree with you in that regard that I too get excited as well but I just don't want to hear all this talk as if they are sooooo good when in fact they are nothing more than what they really are. Draft position doesn't mean anything if you can't preform on the court. Darko, Kwame, Tyson Chandler...all high picks but can't perform. The list goes on and on.

At the end of the day it's not only these two guys that get glorified. I want something to go down as well but when you take a step back there isn't much out there that we can really want, unless they are throwing picks in with it.

You are right. No superstar coming. We will not have superstar coming because we are no fans.
What makes a superstar? Winning and fan base.
This team is not winning. We are no fans. So no superstar. You're right.

Mayo is easily better than Lee. Compare the two players stats last year when they were both starting and playing over 30 minutes a game. This belief that Lee is just as good or better than Mayo on this board is ridiculous.

When one does not know what it is, then it is something; But when no one knows what it is, then it is nothing.

Thabeet has 3-4 blocks, 10-12 rebounds potential...

I am not that excited about Hasheem, but I would be If Daryl traded for him, because that means that Daryl and his scouts think that he has a chance to succeed.

That year Mayo played almost 5 more minutes a game then Lee. Lets look to what they are doing now. If you want to go per 48 minutes to see what they would be doing then it shows a whole different story.

    Lee:
    19 PPG
    6.45 RPG
    2.5 APG
    44.4% FG
    42.5 3PFG

    Mayo:
    20.69 PPG
    4.4 RPG
    3 APG
    41.1 FG
    35.9% 3PFG

So I don't see that much more out of Mayo to make me believe he is an upgrade. Factor in the defense that Lee plays and better shooting percentage it looks like Lee has a slight advantage on him. I don't see us needing to trade Lee to bring in Mayo when clearly they aren't that far apart as far as numbers go. If Morey looks at even the basics then you can see it doesn't make much sense. Unless you get Mayo and a draft pick out of it which no one will do because in my eyes they are the same. Hasn't shown me anything to say he is worth it.

Not true, Mayo is a much better ball handler hence he can create for himself much better than Martin and Lee. His also a much better passer, with good court vision.

Lee can hold his own with the ball in his hand and even run point if he needed to. His court vision is something that is lacking and I agree with you on but Lee can get to the hoop and create enough. Martin creates shot out of nothing no matter how ugly it is. He's quick and gets to the basket as well as gets his shot off the dribble. I have to disagree on that point, but will give you the court vision.

My point is not that Mayo couldn't be better than Lee or isn't right now it's more the fact that he is not that much of an upgrade that everyone makes him out to be. He is not a superstar waiting to happen. We don't need that kind of move because he doesn't bring THAT much more to the table than what we have in my opinion.

You state that the Rockets need a superstar.

Well Plan A: No established superstar wants to be traded to or sign with the Rockets.

Plan B: No young player who has truly flashed signs of greatness will be traded by their team unless they are being traded for an already established superstar. The Rockets have neither of these players.

Plan C: Get a good draft pick and draft a superstar. Rockets are middling around and at best may get the #7/#8 lottery odds if they tank and some things go the Rockets way. Not high enough (unless extremely lucky) to get a superstar, and it is debatable if one exists in this draft.

Plan D: Use the assets that you have, that will either age and be wasted on your team, have maxed out their potential, or will have to resigned to contracts higher than their value for young players who while currently not showing a lot of flashes of future superstar/all-star status, still have a shot no matter how remote. Maybe they have not figured it out, been in a bad situation, not gotten minutes, not gotten good coaching, or whatever.

Plan E: Sit on the hands for a few years and wait for trade to happen which is not likely to happen while their assets leave the team for more money, lose value due to age or "no longer having potential" and while they win just enough games to keep our hopes for the playoffs but never seem to reach it.

As it stands, the Rockets cannot pursue Plan A, B or C. Do you really think Plan E > Plan D?

My point was not to say that the team stays pat and do nothing because that would be stupid. I just believe that they have over hyped a few players on the board. My point was that I don't see any blockbuster trades coming through and I can only see us picking up a lot of assets to build for future. The majority of my post was in reference to everyone believing that giving up some assets to get Mayo was the best thing under the sun because he is so great and better than what we have now. I just don't buy that.

I will take on any project player as long as we get some picks out of it and it benefits our ability to get a player in the future do to being under the cap, trade bait, etc etc but to be so high on some players when they haven't proven a thing is what irks me.

I know that is what you want, which is essentially Plan B. But no teams will trade one of those players because non of the Rockets assets are good enough.

I'm not sure if the Mayo/Thabeet deal (or fill-in-the-blank for whomever has a sliver of potential and is available) is the best on the table but if your essentially trading away players who the Rockets will lose within 2 years anyways (through FA, age or whatever), I see no harm in taking the risk.

Completely agree that you need to get rid of some players and get ready to build again. I don't want to sit around getting nothing but as you stated no one is really taking anything and I don't want to just have a fire sale and get people that are not going to make us any better than we are today just to feel better that we had a trade.

I want value back out of anything we do and really like i mentioned. I just feel that the hype machine that we put on some of these players is getting out of hand when they aren't gonna do a thing for us.
