I have never seen Ricky Rubio play. Perhaps there is something about his skills that one can only see in a game, and not on the stat sheet. Yet, I just looked at some stats and this does not help my skepticism.

    Rubio averages 6.5 ppg, 4.9 assists, and 2.3 steals.(http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=esp&PlayerID=84319)

Compare that to Aaron Brooks who averages:
19.8 ppg, 5.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/brookaa01.html

Now as we know Brooks was drafted 26th overall by houston, rubio was drafted 5th overall by the Twolves and was talked about alot(some predicted him to be taken first overall)

So why is it, that rubio, who has been hailed as the next pistol pete has LESS assists and LESS points then a point guard picked 21 spots lower? Does the euroleague have that much better defense? Or was rubio simply overhyped after a stellar performance in the olympics?

Or, as I theroized before, is there something about rubio I don't know about, something not on the stat sheet, something that makes him worthy to be compared to the greatest point guard ever.

Because Ricky Rubio is only 19!

he's been playing Pro ball since he was 16

If you haven't seen Ricky play just youtube it. He's got ALL the tools (except a consistent shot).

Yes, yes he is. Compared to brooks who averages 36 mpg. So you figure you could double rubio's numbers to see what he would get if playing longer.

One word "POTENTIAL", Rubio at 6'5 has all the tools to be an elite point guard in this league, his only 19yrs old, his current production doesn't matter as much....

    Moronic...

You can't even understand how Barcelona is playing right now  This team is full of european caliber stars and Rubio is their balanced component. If you are watching Barca with Rubio on the court - you are wathing on the best team in Europe. when you are wathing on Barca without Ricky - you'll see pretty good team, but not fantastic as it is with that youngster.

It's not about stats. You can't measure basketball IQ with numbers.

Rubio can attack the basket just a few times and he still will "dominate" the game.

"Dominate" in a case of control. He is controlling every aspect of the game. Even if you can't see that in boxscores. watch games.

Milos Teodosic (Serbian, PG of Serbian NT and Olympiakos) is way better than Rubio. I think that he is the best pg in europe right now.

agreed, if people hadn't learned from brandon, the way they utilize minutes and their stats are not crazy like in american, its true team ball over there and they rarely get 20 + point scorers, from josh childress, to the other americans that played their, its usually zone defense and not a focus on stats.

I watched a couple of his Euro league games and I think it's that they play a different style over there. The point guard brings the ball up court, passes it off, and is then pretty much out of the picture for the rest of the possession. They don't use a PG as a playmaker, so he's not going to rack up the personal stats.
