OK, since this year is pretty much over it's time to ask: who would have racked up more wins this season with the current squad?
It would have been roughly the same. Maybe Adelman may have added a few more wins but overall, we would still be mediocre. The team's roster leaves a lot to be desired and at the end of the day, a coach can only do so much. So, for an answer I would say Rick. But only a marginal improvement. Truth is, we're going no where unless we add better players.
I think with this team Rick would have made a formidable playoff push. Call me crazy, but he is a hell of a coach and this year he would have had real centers to work with.
Yeah, that's true but I also think he would have relied on Martin alot and on Budinger. We probably wouldn't have seen the emergence of Parsons either.
Rick would have won 22 in a row. I would be happy with an 11-game streak. He would have had 2 big guys over 6'10" not named Thabeet. This difference alone would have greatly improved our defense over Hill and Hayes. He also has his Battier,(who he loved and used too much maybe), replacement in Parsons.
Rick would've still been starting Budinger, and Parsons would be rotting on the bench. If this were 2 weeks ago, the results would be way different, but the end of this season has left you all bitter towards mchale.
Considering that Adelman played Budinger as a rookie shows that he does play rookies. I don't know if Adelman would've started parsons but he probably would've given him some playing time if Parsons had been tearing it up in practice.
I thought I knew at the time. I thought they were all in on rebuilding for real...and that Adelman was a HOF coach in the last years of his career who didn't want to stick around for that. That's what I thought. Then they signed Dalembert and traded for supplemental pieces to try to make a playoff run.
With so many injuries, a condensed schedule with little practice, and Parsons being such a solid contributor, I'd have to say JVG would have this team doing the best. He offers an immediate identity to a team that didn't have much stability. He'd also play the 7-footers regularly and probably have Patterson committed to defense. Adelman waits around too long, lets the team figure things out -- that mentality would kill us in the shortened season. He'd also likely be starting Budinger over Parsons.
I prefer Ricks offense .... by a wide margin. McHale did an admirable job all things considered .... but the offense looks horrible when teams extend their defense out to the 3pt line. The Rockets have a difficult time getting a good look under those circumstances and it showed all year long in the dry spells they went thru in so many games. McHales defense was probably better but they took so many poor shots that lead to easy looks on the other end .... where as Adlemans offense doesnt often lead to those easy looks on the other end. This year really shed light on that situation. They can't claim they wanted to go a different direction when they let him go and stayed the course. In the end, it was front office meddling and egos. Adelman (rightly) called out Morey in the media over last year's trades. Les and Adelman had issues as well. Morey wanted to shoehorn Finch onto Adelman's staff, which Adelman was (rightly) insulted by it. A year later, it looks really bad. Finch and Co haven't shown the slightest glimmer of Boy Genius that they supposedly were bringing to the table. Lowry and Martin both look at least somewhat disgruntled, either with Morey, the firing of Rick, or with McHale. In the least, it's been disconcerting.
that's not what you thought, that is what the ministry made you believe. I miss my fuhrer, but Mctalky has grown on me. I pray to the basketball gods that he sees that scola and ppat will not work.
Would be fun to see him back and make us all laugh again, Especially when the team is not playing well
