Aside from those that insist on wearing blinders, we all are seeing the problems on the court right now. It's very apparent which players are, and which aren't, willing to be a part of this offense. A HEAP of blame is at the feet of two players in particular, and while it is fully justified (minus the juvenile name calling), Rick Adelman can not be excused from the blame. Passive-aggressive complaining in the postgame press conferences isn't leading. You are the coach of this team. If players under your charge are breaking away and playing bad basketball, the onus is on you to correct their play. If a player is hurting the team on the court, it is your responsibility to pull him out. Players like you because you are a player's coach. That's nice. But this team is in desperate need for a leader. Take the reins or resign if you aren't up to the task. Evan
I 100% approve of this post. Rick Adelman has let the inmates run the assylum far to long. He needs a "My way or the highway" approach. DD
Take control Rick, its obvious a change needs to implemented and players need to take responsbility for their actions on the court.
good post. rick needs to man up, sit tracy and ron down and say this: we don't need you guys to be superstars right now. we didn't yao to be a superstar and we still won. sure we might need you guys to take over some games, but not every game. we have talented/good players now where you can simply be a part, rather be the main part, of the offense. sit them down and say that (or in his "players-coach" way") along with more practice and all will be gravy
Agreed. In my opinion, a good coach can play BOTH roles.....someone who caters to the players, and gives them their freedom, both on and off the court. But when things aren't going well, or it's clear that not everyone is on the same page, he should be able to reign in the members of the team, and show some toughness.
Agreed. Adelman needs to send a message to TM and RA by benching them or decreasing their PT. Wafer should get the start next game, too.
agree. the coach must adapt his tactics to his player first. Not just try to fit his players in his tactics. We are not Kings. Our guys are totally different from that of kings. We don't have Bibby, Miller, but we have three superstars. The thing has to be changed is Adelman and his tactic, not our superstars. We need to use them efficiently by strategy, not change them for strategy.
Those of you who had 2 years as the under from "how long it takes DD to wish the Rockets coach was a disciplinarian after his nonstop ranting about JVG being too much of a disciplinarian" pool - please step forward to the cashier's window to collect your winnings. For the record - my prediction in this regard proved inaccurate: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=3384260&highlight=disciplinarian#post3384260
Its kind of like Parcells v Wade. He made people uncomfortable and demanded a certain level of play all the time and it worked. The players thought he was too tough so they brought in a players coach. The wr is trippin, the qb goes to cabo during the bye week of the playoffs and now they miss the playoffs. I dont think you can have it both ways.
One can't make this stuff up. May 2007: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=2924025&highlight=highway#post2924025
Real simple solution: bench T-Mac and Artest for "medical reasons". Bring them off only if they play the offense.
Great poem! The lack of accountability for each individual has been obvious for awhile. And awesome find Sam. Adelman needs to hold players responsible for their actions like you just did w/ Dada.
Somebody once said "You can have one jerk on a team, but not two. If you have two they'll breed." JvG had T-Mac. Adelman's got T-Mac and Artest off the reservation right now on the offense. Not the same situation at all.
If you think for one minute that JVG would allow this with having it affect these guys' playing time, you need to call JVG immediately and apologize to him. It's easy to be a dillweed when you know you can get away with it.
Same thing was said towards Rudy T during the Francis-Mobley era. We all know who was brought it to change all that. Folks thought that man was too hard on our players and shipped him out.
It's not really on Rick Adelman at all. Everyone knows he can coach. He's proven it. If this team goes out in the first round again, that will not change. He'll still be one of the best coaches to ever coach in the league. It's on the players, just like it always is. McGrady in particular is the one who has everything at stake. Is he going to be a lifelong loser? He will if he doesn't start playing. If that doesn't bother him, oh well. The only proven winner on this team is Rick Adelman.
