With all the talk surrounding JVG and his position with the team next year, there are a few choices out there. One that I find interesting is Rick Carlisle. He mutually decided with Larry Bird today that he would not coach the Pacers next season. He was coach of the year during the 2001-2002 season. With the way JVG has handled rookies and trouble makers, many are criticizing the way he coaches. Also, his nonchalance for pumping up the team for the first half in recent playoff games is worrysome.

Poll Question: Would Rick Carlisle be better than Jeff Van Gundy for this team?

carlisle is a good coach, he isn't better than jvg. how about you be happy that we're in the playoffs and we're up 2-0. next thing you know you'll be making a thread about whether or not yao or tmac are a fit. sheesh.

a coaching change should be the absolute last thing on your mind right now.

Why make a thread like this while we are in the midst of our playoff run? Since we don't know what is going to happen with the team we have, it is beyond premature to ask these kinds of questions now.

wasn't trying to be offensive. just saw that carlisle got fired and was curious as to who you thought would be a better fit. this thread doesn't bite into our playoff hopes. sure jvg is coaching right now, but im not taking anything away from how good the team is now. a team can always get better.

So... what exactly does Carlisle bring to the table that Van Gundy does not?

We know you weren't, but that is somewhat how this is going to come across. We are in the first round of the playoffs, up 2-0 no less, and doing well. Yet, you bring up a coaching change. Not to mention that our current coach finished 3rd in Coach of the Year voting.

I understand what you are saying, but you should have used deductive reasoning (and no offense, common sense) that this would rub people the wrong way because it is the wrong time for this.

Now, if you were talking about our starting PG and backup PF positions, then by all means....

Where is option "C - This is a dumb ass poll"

I cannot believe all the stupid threads being posted while we are in the midst of a playoff run. JVG has taken this team a long way since coming here and cleaned up all the mess that Rudy T left behind to boot.

No, no, and NO. Carlisle may be an even more extreme version of JVG. Great defensive and xs and os coach with even less people skills and who even more is able to alienate some players.

No, no, and no, to Adelman too. A pushover who doesn't preach defense or effort, and only whines to officials. Rudy T has much of the better qualities of Adelman (players coach) but still some semblence of player accountability and defensive philosophy.

Agree with you on both counts.

As for the poll, jezz people can we let this "who else can get to coach" crap go at least while we doing well, I've come to expect when we lose
