Found this interview on Titan Sports today.

It was an interview of Rick Adelman by Shen Zhiyu of Titan Sports in Las Vegas whereupon Rick Adelman talked extensively his plan on how to deploy/utilize Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady and his outlook of the Houston Rockets in the new season.

Another translation work of mine for more than 3 hours.

    ENJOY !!!

I'm happy to hear that Adelman thinks McGrady will raise is scoring average in the new offense, and he think McGrady is the perfect fit for his offense. Also, I hope next season will be exciting as I think it's going to be.

thanks for the translation. can't wait to actually see a more offensively fluid rockets team. i started to watch a year before yao was drafted and let me tell ya it was horrible watching them bring the ball up. watching stevie dribble the time off the clock and less than half the time he would make it and not involve anyone else in the offense.. heres to a more attractive looking rockets team! :D

Tracy is a natural born scorer. while he excelled at being the primary point forward for us, heis at he's devestating best when he is looking to score. glad to see Coach Adelman will let tracy play he's natural game. also in the motion offense, tracy will get alot more easier shots.

Great read thanks for the translation.

Will be interesting to hear how some of the fans responses in regards to Adelman saying Yao's points may drop ;)

    thanks pryuen.

while i am very excited for this new offense to be implemented, i just hope yao isn't asked to do too much.

adelman stated yao will do most of his scoring in the low post, but i'm afraid they may not utilize it enough.

i mean, spreading his game is terrific, but prior to his injury last season, he scored almost at will in the low post. i just hope they utilize this to its full extent while also keeping a fair balance to spread his game.

van gundy was a coach that tried to play nearly every player on the team in an un natural way, where as adelman seems like he wants players to play there natural game and use the talents they were given unlike van gundy

If Yao Ming's score drops significantly (5 or more points), then I don't agree with Adelman's use of Yao Ming. I think Yao is best used as the go to guy in the low-post rather than some passing machine. We'll see how it turns out but if Yao becomes a Brad Miller then I will criticize Adelman for sure.

Pryuen is another guy that could use a custom moniker.
Yaofan07- I agree. Yao needs to be getting the most shots, and they need to be as deep as possible. I am sure Adelman understands it though. I doubt Yao will actually attempt the most shots per game but I don't expect him to be reduced to Miller or Divac.

Sometimes I wonder why you think personal stats is more important to Yao Ming than to help his team win.

Rick Adelman in so short an acquaintence of Yao Ming already knows that he is such a selfless team-oriented player that he is willing to sacrifice his own personal stats just so the team can win.

And you called yourself a loyal Yao Ming fan ?

And sometimes I wonder whether you can read.

If you can decode what Adelman said, Yao Ming will be placed in his most comfortable zones, will have more scoring opportunities, and will be scoring through a disarray of different skills, be it dunks, layups, put back, alley-oops, sky hooks, fadeaways, short to mid range jumpers or even 3-pointers.

How is that going to be worst?

By fully utilizing his game and skills and spreading him in the paint, as Jack Sikma pointed out correctly, will enable Yao Ming to avoid banging body day-in day-out under the low post, and this will minimize the chances for injuries and the wear and tear of his body, and therefore extend longevity of his career.

After all, Yao Ming will not be just a 15/10/5 Brad Miller. When have you seen Yao Ming averaging less than 20 points in recent years? What is so bad about becoming a 20/10/5 "Brad Miller" ?

I side with JVG over Adelman on their use of Yao Ming.

According to the article you posted, Yao Ming's scoring average WILL decrease. Adelman intends to use Yao as how he used Divac and Miller, as a center POINT. Yao Ming as a dominant scorer is better than both Divac and Miller. He should be along with T-Mac the #1 scoring option. Why force the BEST FG% player to PASS rather than SCORE?

I do not want to see Yao Ming out on the FT line, playing Point Center. That is r****ded. I want to see Yao Ming in the paint, scoring, dominating.

Adelman's motion offense is good for players like T-Mac, who can slash towards the basket.

But NOT for Yao. Plant Yao in the paint and STICK him there. THat's it. Don't move him around up to the FT line. Do you think Yao Ming will score more easily 15 feet away than 5 feet away? It's good thing to MIX it up ONCE in awhile, but don't change how Yao plays. 95% of Yao's plays should be in the paint.

Then you mean you want Yao Ming to be double-teamed and had to fight for his position and body clashed with those fierce and physical centres day-in day-out under the low post, and therefore be more exposed to injuries and faster wear and tear of his body thereby shortening his career?

    What a Yao Ming fan!!

Do not question anyone's "fan-ness". I've said this to you before, but how can you judge anyone's "fan-ness"? Who are you to judge?

I can question your fan-ness as well. Do you think Yao Ming is served well to score 19 ppg and 5assist? DO you think it serves Yao Ming to become the next Brad Miller?

How can YOU claim to be a Yao Ming fan and want him to be the next Brad Miller? Do you think Yao Ming will become an All-Star if he plays that way? Do you think he will enter the Hall of Fame?

Look, so far, Yao Ming is on a steady progression towards a great, Hall of Fame career. He should be average 25/10 for the next 6 years. If he doesn't, then his career is going off-track.

Yao Ming will be judged harshly if he doesn't score 25/10. Do you understand this Pryuen? It doesn't matter if the Rockets go past the second round. Yao Ming will be judged as a FAILURE if he scores less than 25/10.

What kind of fan are you Pryuen to want that? You want Yao to be criticized? You want his #'s to go down at his expense?

What sort of fan are you? You are not a Yao Ming fan if you want his stats to decrease to 20/10.

I want Yao Ming to maintain a steady 25/10 stat for the next 6 years.Because he is capable of that. He is a HOF center.

Who told you that the Rockets MUST sacrifice Yao's stats to win? Who told you that?

The Rockets lost last year because JVG's offense system sucks. The only part of JVG's offense that worked well was how he utilized Yao. JVG received nothing but praise for how he developed Yao Ming. Why change Yao's development path? Why turn him into a Brad Miller, a jump shooting passing center?

Yao Ming's health is fine. if he is double teamed, pass out. THat is where adelman's Motion offense comes into play. But he must be the #1 option IN THE PAINT if the ROckets want to win.

    Thanks again, pryuen.

Adelman is in for a rude awakening come training camp. Yao cannot be Brad Miller or Vlade Divac. (Not that that's a bad thing.) He's a much stronger player than either, is much harder to defend in the post, he's a better scorer than either, and he's not nearly as good of a passer. He can score from the high post at 45% or so, we've seen that. But we've also seen him fumble inlet passes and telegraph outlet passes. Adding a lot of motion to those is not going to be pretty. The sooner Rick realizes this, the better. Adelman has a reputation for maximizing his players' strengths. Let's hope that holds true. Because there's no way that Yao playing the high-post in a high-low offense would maximize his strength.

I think you mistaken one thing already.....

No matter whether he scored 18, 19, 20 or 25, 26, 27 ppg, Yao Ming will be All Stars for the next 5 years.

He will be a HOF centre for the impact and contribution he brought to international basketball and NBA.

    Tell me one thing.

What good is it that Yao Ming scored 30 ppg but this team fails to win anything or get passed the 2nd round of the playoff? What good is it that by parking him 95% at the low post, subject him to all those physical and fierce plays day-in and day-out and thereby increase the risk for getting injured or the wear-and-tear to his body that will shorten his career?

If the rockets get past the 1st round and go all the way To the WCF, who gives a rats ass if yao or tracy avge 3 points less?. the more team success yao has, the less he will be critized.

I understand where you are going and I somewhat agree. However, Adelman isn't going to "plant" Yao on the FT line. He's going to let Yao move around a little.

It was frustrating to see Yao move from the right block to the left block, when everybody in the building knew exactly where Yao was going next. So they'd just meet him there and strip the ball from him. How many times did AK47 block Yao because he knew exactly where Yao was gonna move next? Hopefully Adlemen can implement a little more variety so he isn't so predictable.

Hopefully now Yao can have a little more freedom and not be so predictable. But Yao better spend a lot of time on the low block still. 4-5 attempts from the top of the lane is about all I want to see from Yao.

Pryuen, how many times did Brad Miller go to All-Stars? Hmm?

If Yao scored only 18 points, he will not go to All-Stars. Maybe next year, yes. But in 3 years? I don't think so. He will be replaced by Amare Stoudemire, or any of the upcoming Centers like Oden.

You underestimate the importance of STATS. You think Yao will go to the HOF if he averages 15/9/5 the next 5 years? Get out of here! Yao will not be a HOF center with those #s.

Yao Ming will not have a long career. Players of his size cannot have a long career like a Mutombo might. Yao will not play past age 34, 35.

Yao's injuries is not due to Low-Post banging. Yao's injuries is due to his SIZE, and WEIGHT. His foot injuries is due to his size and weight. His injury last year was freak accident. But Yao will continue to have toe, foot, ankle injuries because he's 7'6, 310lbs. Whether he plays outside the paint, it doesn't matter. Yao still has to RUN up and down the court. That stresses his feet, ankles.

It is important that Yao continues his 25/10 average. Who told you that in order for the Rockets to WIN, Yao must diminish his stats? Who told you that?

As I said, the reason the Rockets did not get past the 1 st is not Yao's scoring 25 / game. It is due to JVG's stubborn refusal to play ALL his players. That is JVG's fault. He is stubborn guy. You can't play just 8 guys who get TIRED and expect to beat a deep team like Utah who will play 10, 11 players.

Again, I ask you Pryuen, who told you that for Rockets to win, Yao's scoring must decrease? Is Yao taking 30 shots to get his 25 points? He is the HIGHEST MOST EFFICENT SCORER ON THE ROCKETS!!!

He doesn't need to score 30 times like T-Mac to get his 20 points.

You are not a fan of Yao Ming if you want him to become a Brad Miller.
