August 28, 2009 Rockets could have both Yao, T-Mac back this season Remember you heard it hear first. Tracy McGrady could be ready by the first game of the regular season, and Yao Ming could be there for the final game. Yao has never been officially counted out of the 2009-2010 regular season. Considering the complexity of the surgical procedures on his left foot, the Rockets might decide not to let him play no matter what. However, given Yao's work ethic, if doctors clear him to return to the floor, that's exactly what he's going to do. ''We may have to slow him down,'' GM Daryl Morey said. Yao is handling this latest setback exactly the way you'd think this role model of professionalism would handle it. He's at Toyota Center most mornings around 8:30 to work on conditioning and to chat up the guys. And then he goes to the practice court, sits down in a chair and shoots dozens and dozens of shots. Regardless of how long he's gone, he doesn't want to lose the familiar feel of the basketball in his hand and the basket in his mind. If you need a reminder of why his teammates and coaches respect him so much, these morning shooting sessions join a long list. He's the perfect team player and also the hardest worker. ''We told him that when we get to the Finals we're going to run a play with him on the floor,'' Morey said. Speaking of hard workers, Tracy McGrady appears to have worked harder than ever before. He hired Chicago trainer Tim Grover, the man who became famous for his work with Michael Jordan. Grover is so demanding and so intolerant of slackers that it speaks volumes about McGrady that he was willing to extend himself in a way he never has before. He has told friends that he understands the Rockets no longer belong to him and Yao. At the beginning of this camp, they'll belong to Shane Battier and Luis Scola. They're the ones that led down the stretch last year with their hustle and smarts. When McGrady returns, he'll have to fit in, and he'll have plenty of bridges to mend. Some of his teammates don't believe he gave his best effort last season, and McGrady needs to win them back over. He's still young enough to be a very, very good NBA player. He has been cleared to do whatever his left knee will allow him to do. The Rockets have been told he's still not completely comfortable jumping off the knee, but with training camp still a month away, there's plenty of time to get there. It's impossible to know how good the Rockets are going to be. They'll be younger, faster and smaller than last season. It would be interesting to see how they played without McGrady. It will also be interesting to see if McGrady is willing to lose himself in the team. Wouldn't it be something if this turned out to be McGrady's finest hour, if he came back and played at a high level, and shared the ball and ran the floor and helped make everyone better? He's capable of doing all those things. We know this because we've seen it before. The Rockets might still end up fighting for a playoff spot, but if they got the big fella back around March, well, I'm getting chills thinking about it. I've got to go have a Diet Coke and a Twinkie and calm myself.

Finally some optimistic love.

However, I'm pretty sure, I definitely heard this scenario first in the GARM.

Either way, you can help but smile when you think of this March line up when healthy

PG: Brooks/Lowry
SG: McGrady/Budinger/Taylor
SF: Ariza/Battier
PF: Scola/Landry/Pops
C: Yao/Anderson

That still leaves; James White, Chuck Hayes, Joey Dorsey, Brian Cook, and Brent Barry to be dealt with

But then again....its all just wishful thinking at this point.

We've already seen what a healthy T-Mac can do, and a healthy Yao is basically just a tease at this point. Let's not beat a dead horse and an expiring contract here--the Rockets have moved on and so have I as a fan.

I don't care about McGrady anymore or Yao to a lesser extent. McGrady isn't going to be a Rocket next season. Yao, although a great person and a hard worker, just can't play a full season + playoffs of NBA ball. If the goal is to win a Championship then the team obviously needs to move on.

As a fan, the Rockets get a pass from me this season. I have no expectations other than to see a team that hustles, plays defense and have fun on offense. I know I will get all of those things from this group of guys.

I've been telling anyone who would listen Tracy would be back at the beginnig. This is coming from a very,very,very,very close person, but i guess people will believe it now cause justice says it.
