Looks like Griffin won't be wearing #41 in honor of his brother. Rice will wear it and Griffin will wear the #33 he wore during the summer camp. You know what this means...if Griffin goes on to have a stellar career with the Rockets Pippen will have his jersey retired in the rafters of the new Houston arena after all. Yech. Old School
I wonder if the Rox knew all along abt the Rice trade and that's why Griff wore #33 in the summer games. What other reason would he have for not wearing #41 during the summer if that was going to be his # for the next decade anyways?
Not the sort of thing we'd hear about (unless it was in the Airport, or at Whole Foods), but anybody think Rice greased EG's palm a little bit? Last night during the Astros game, it was mentioned that when changing clubs, some MLB players have paid upwards of $20K to obtain their numbers from another ballplayer.
Maybe after Rice leaves, Griffin will switch to #41. That way, if he has any number retired, it will be #41, and Pippen's number will continue to rot in whatever horrid exhile numbers rot in.
The Rockets should retire #33 for Otis Thorpe and then we could all forget about that guy who wore it next. What was his name again? Starts with a Q?
Maybe Griffin will erase the thought of Q from our minds and will be the only one remembered for wearing number 33.
I've heard of some baseball players giving a Rolex watches to other players to get the number they wanted. Who knows if Rice gave a little payola to Griffin? Maybe it'll come out at the press conference today. Old School
Apparently hw wanted to honor his brother in his real NBA game, hence the #33 during summer leagues. There is no way Rice has greased Griffin's palm to get 41 - he only arrived in town today - he probably doesn't even know who Eddie Griffin from a bar of soap let alone paid him off.
